Ok so i'm doing a two custom set of Ben 10.
one when he's a teen and the other when he's ten.

i couldn't find any dollyhair color that i felt really matched.
i happened upon a barbie at goodwill with the perfect color of long hair.
problem is. i just finished hairing the first one... and i will barely have enough to do a mane.
do you think i should find another doll and use a slightly different color hair?
work with what i have?
or try blending?

i did something different that just a regular mane and wanted to do the same for the other, but don't have enough hair.
what do you think i should do?

I sell them :) There is a link in my signature to my store.

In a pinch, you can make them by snipping the eye of a needle off at an angle. You just need something to hold it with after that. A bit of wood, or a needle vice.

what do you recommend for a needle to pre-poke the holes?

thanks for those that helped me find a hairing tool.
so one of the first customs i would like to do is a princess luna. (for my own collection.)
i'm trying to decide between the two luna types.

or really what the difference between the two are. i've only seen the first type in the show, but i've only seen the first 2 seasons too.
which do think would be a better custom?
and any suggestions of what color dollyhair to get for it?

http://www.amazon.com/SE-Double-Mouth-Pin-Vise/dp/B00179BAFC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1349751261&sr=8-7&keywords=pin+vise

This pin vise is what I use; it holds a snipped off tapestry needle for rehairing. $3.50 + free shipping.  It's the same sort of tool they sell at Dollyhair.

You can get a pack of needles from Walmart for about $1.50.

For pre-poking, I use a regular push pin.  :)

I charge $2.00 shipping within the united states. $4.00 overseas, with a refund given if the cost of shipping is less than that by at least $1.

For pre poking holes, I use a push pin like Dippindot suggested.

I dislike using a pin vice personally, because the only one I have ever used.. the needle could get pushed inside of it if it wasn't tight enough or it came loose. The handles that I sell personally do not have this problem.

As to the needles, just be careful if you cut them yourself. Little bits fly everywhere. If you cut them with wire cutters, be aware that the needle will sometimes shatter. Also, the needles WILL destroy wire cutters after only a few. Your best best is to use a dremmel and sand them down.

Agreed!  My needles do get pushed in sometimes (not often enough to be a nuisance, thankfully).  Also, it looks like yours comes with a cover.  Do not underestimate the benefit of such a thing *eyes stabbied finger*

I haven't had a problem with the needles hurting my wire cutters, but the flying needle shrapnel can be a real problem.  If I had a dremel, I'd use it.

Forget Me Not might be a good color for her "darker" hair in the first picture...not sure about that light blue/purple in the last picture, though. :( Sorry I can't help more...

edit: Wait, I had an idea! For the shiny part of the mane, you could maybe mix a bit of Moonlight with the blue color you choose. I have both if you would like to see a picture?

I thought the darker blue in the first picture looks more like After Midnight than Forget Me Not, but it might be how my monitor is displaying the picture.  Also, I think that DH's darker purple, Deadly Nightshade, might be too dark for the purple stripe, but Sour Grapes would be too... bright?

As for the second picture, the hair kind of looks like Blueberry Muffin to me, though that's currently out of stock at DollyHair.  I do recall Tina mentioning that some time at the end of October/early November, when her new shipment got released from customs that she'd have a lot of colors back in stock (however, I also have no idea what colors she's getting in).  I think that's how it went, at least.  Please do not quote me on this, though, since I don't quite remember where I read that.

Yay! Luna is the best.

I'm going to stalk this to see what you all come up with for the hair.
