Ewww! Dryer sheet ponies..
« on: October 04, 2012, 01:21:16 PM »
I just got a giant lot of ponies in the mail.  They are each individually bagged but wrapped, inside the sandwich bag, with dryer sheets.  The ponies reek of dryer sheet chemicals and are all kinda sticky and oily from the chemicals.  :/  Looks like we need an emergency trip to the spas for the whole lot.  This could take forever.

Just say no to wrapping your ponies in dryer sheets!  ;)

Blergh.

I would suggest a quick wash in warm water and maybe a little go-gone to get rid of that stickiness (someone correct me if this is a bad thing). As for the smell, leave them outside for awhile to air 'em out. Good luck!

That's what I thought but I can't smell anything else on them.  They came from an original collection from a Grandma--maybe she was quirky in how she stored things?  But yeah--wth is right!  I've got hundreds to clean and dryer goo aside, they look factory.  :/

Eww that just sounds like something I would only touch with 2 foot tongs. Good luck getting rid of that smell though.

Wow, I had no idea dryer sheets could be so damaging. Of course, I never would have thought to use them to store with ponies either. Maybe the previous owner thought that the dryer sheet was like a piece of bread and would absorb the moisture? *shrug*
Would all dryer sheets do this? Or just scented ones? Do scented dryer sheets even exist?
I'll put something here some time

I like to use dryer sheets sometimes to help tame frizzy hair and tinsel, but you really have to be sure to rinse all the gunk out, otherwise-- yeah, you get a really unpleasant residue left over! :(

This is why dryer sheets should only be used for short periods or under observation :P

Sounds like you have quite a challenge ahead! It sounds weird but for getting rid of oiliness - I suggest either baby wipes or, this may sound silly, but eye make up remover [you know the little pads]

Good luck! I cant wait to see them all done up!

I guess some people like the smell, but I'm allergic to it so I hope that people avoid shipping ponies wrapped in them!

I thought dryer sheets were for catching static electricity buildup.  Maybe the sender thought it would be a good way to prevent the ponies' hair from getting frizzy in the package.

The oil-remover pads sound like a great idea! Anything that's meant to remove slimy stuff- can you use something like oven-degreaser, just diluted a whole bunch? I don't know what that will do to the plastic, just brainstorming...

And did you say hundreds? You lucky duck! Other than the cleaning, that is!

Oh god, I wouldn't go near them with anything like over degreaser. I'd go with dishwash liquid, personally!

No I wouldnt try degreaser its very astringent even diluted. The eye make up pads I use are designed to cut through mascara and eyeliner so great on greasy substances but they are obviously designed to be used on skin so are relatively gentle hence why I use them...gentle but tough all at the same time.
