Removing pony heads
« on: October 01, 2012, 02:00:41 PM »
I've got a G1 with a very stubborn head that I'm trying to remove. I really don't want to cut out the plug. I love keeping the plug in tact so the head can always be removed.

Any suggestions to get the head off safely?

There are a variety of methods you can use, sometimes heat will help loosen the glue and make hard plastic ponies easier to manipulate (though do be careful, as it can make the plastic weaker as well), or floss soaked in acetone can be used to rub at the seam line.  If you're past the initial seam and it's the plug itself that is stuck, getting a bit of acetone in there can help soften the glue.  The key is patience, and persistence.

I would start with warm water and try to loosen the glue that way, unless it's a SS pony. :)

A soak in very warm water or a hair dryer initially to see if that melts glue. The next option is acetone on floss and then [warning for violence :P] you saw the floss gradually through the next line to remove the glue.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
