Colour help for a cosplay?
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:46:37 AM »
Bit random but I think someone might be able to help.
I'm planning to do a Fluttershy cosplay which means I need to make ears and wings I'm planning on using fleece. I'm not sure which color is the best match.

Lemon http://www.fabric-world.com/Lemon-Fleece-Fabric-p240.html
Or yellow (but to me this looks orange o.O) http://www.fabric-world.com/Fabrics-Fleece-Plain-Fleece-c1_18_251/Yellow-Fleece-Fabric-p264.html

It's probably better to actually go to fabric land or similar with Fluttershy to see the colours of fleece in real life :)

The first one looks closer from the picture but I agree with PartyPony, you are much better off going and looking at the fabric in person. I would never buy fabric online unless I had to because the photos can be very off and are commonly off by at least a little bit.

Unfortunatly there isn't one near me. Going there would involve me bugging my parents. There is a small shop near me but they don't really stock fleece.

If you have to buy online, go with the Lemon color. :)

Is it possible to ask the small shop near you to get a few swatches for you to check out before you order on line?  That shouldn't be too difficult for them as the shipping wouldn't cost much.
If wishes were horses, they'd be My Little Ponies.

I would say lemon... if you're already saying the yellow looks orange, you're not going to be recognizable as Fluttershy from across a room!  :)

I agree with the lemon colour but I also agree with seeing if they might send you swatches if you cant get to a store. Sometimes if you are willing to send a stamped addressed envelope which they could send them back to you in, some fabric companies may be willing to send out samples. A couple of the times I had had to purchase bulk material or other haberdashery on line I have found a couple of companies willing to do this...always worth asking :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I'd definitely say that lemon looks closer to Fluttershy than that yellow from those pics.
If you can't get a sample to check I'd say you'd be safe with the Lemon.

It seems that way, I think I can order samples from that site so I might do that.
I was in my local fabric shop this morning, I can get the fabrics I need for part of the costume (and a pattern) but buying my fleece from this site will be slightly cheaper. I brought from the site in question before so I can 'vouch' for their fabric.
