Simple and easy songs in English for kids
« on: September 16, 2012, 04:55:30 AM »
Hi everyone!

I need your help! I just started my second year as an English teacher in China and this time they decided to give me kindergarten.
The kids are lovely and the highest grade already has pretty good bases. I'd love to teach them songs but I don't know many myself.

I used to work in a summer camp so I know a lot of songs ... all in french ^^

Any simple and cute songs to advise me? The more the better! Titles preferred as I can't open YouTube.

Thanks!

If You're Happy

If you're happy and you know it clap your hands *clap clap*
If you're  happy and you know it clap your hands *clap clap*
If you're happy and you know it
Then your face will really show it
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands *clap clap*

:)

You can alter the words too like:

If you're happy and you know it touch your nose... Or if you're happy and you know it jump around.... You get the idea :)

One that is super easy and great for any language (it has easy to pronounce words for all languages, and simple movements that are easy to follow) is rum tum tum - this is how it goes:

*make both hands into fists and tap the top of one with the other hand in a fist* a rum tum tum
*switch hands & do the same as the first line* a rum tum tum
*roll both your hands in a circular motion in front of you* goolie goolie goolie goolie goolie
*make both hands into fists and tap the top of one with the other hand in a fist* rum tum tum
*throw both your hands up in the air & bring back to your lap as you finish the line* a raa fee
*throw both your hands up in the air & bring back to your lap as you finish the line* a raa fee
*roll both your hands in a circular motion in front of you* goolie goolie goolie goolie goolie
*make both hands into fists and tap the top of one with the other hand in a fist* rum tum tum
(repeat as many times as you wish)

Some other good ones that the kids will enjoy is the hokey pokey, you just swap which body part to put in the circle and can go on as long as you like

Get the children to form a circle for this one

You put your ................ in *put your ........... into the circle*
You put your ................ out *put our ........... out of the circle*
You put your ................ in *put your ........... into the circle*
And you shake it all about *shake ......... around*
You do the hokey pokey *put your hands up under your chin and wiggle from side to side*
And you turn around *turn around*
Thats what its all about *clap  your hands as you say each word*
Oooh the hokey pokey *get everyone to move towoards middle of the circle & raise their arms up, then go back out*
Oooh the hokey pokey *get everyone to move towoards middle of the circle & raise their arms up, then go back out*
Oooh the hokey pokey *get everyone to move towoards middle of the circle & raise their arms up, then go back out*
Thats what its all about *clap  your hands as you say each word*
(repeat)

5 cheeky monkeys -

5 cheeky monkeys juming on the bed,
one fell off and bumped his head,
mumma called the doctor and the doctor said
no more monkeys jumping on the bed
(repeat for 4,3,2)
1 cheeky monkey juming on the bed,
he fell off and bumped his head,
mumma called the doctor and the doctor said
all the cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed.

Alice the camel -

Alice the camel had ten humps,
Alice the camel had ten humps,
Alice the camel had ten humps,
Go Alice go, boom boom boom,
(repeat for 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1)
Alice the camel had no humps,
Alice the camel had no humps,
Alice the camel had no humps,
Because Alice was a horse.

If you are after more, feel free to PM me ;) I have tonnes, and can even help if the children are interested in something specific.

"Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" comes to mind.  It'll show them body parts in English and is really easy.

Oh I just thought of another, Leo the Lion. The kids generally love it, and its really simple and easy. This is how it goes -

Leo the lion is the king of the jungle and his jaws are big and wide *put your hands out in front of you & open & close them like a lions jaw*
Leo the lion when he roars its a warning so you'd better run and hide *cover your eyes* Shhhh *put your finger up to your lips*
*get a little bit quieter* So you'd better run and hide *cover your eyes* shhh *put your finger up to your lips*
*get a little bit quieter* So you'd better run and hide *cover your eyes* shhh *put your finger up to your lips*
*get a little bit quieter* So you'd better run and hide *cover your eyes* shhh *put your finger up to your lips*
*just mouth the words for the next line & put your finger up to your lips* ROAR! (Really Loud)

Trust me the kids will love it lol, I have done that one a few times with the 3 - 4 year olds and they love the big roar at the end.

Yay! More!

The medium grade of kindergarten is definitely getting "head shoulders knees and toes" tomorrow, I hope they don't know it yet! I sung that song so many times, even played it with a friend :p I guess it's one of the most popular song for english teachers here.

fingerpaints - Ah! I love that song! I had a similar one in french, more like a story, but this sounds so great! Will have to try ^^
StoryDreamer - thanks for the link, they have midi versions of the songs :D

Melody and Kaos, you both quoted songs that I know but never heard the actual lyrics.

Here's a good list of popular kids' songs: http://www.esl-kids.com/songs/songs.html I realize there aren't tunes for these but once you have a title it should be easy to find a video or sound clip of them.
If wishes were horses, they'd be My Little Ponies.
Thanks to moonflower for my adorable adoptable!
