Neat shelves! You did a great job! Once my room is finished (hopefully this weekend) I plan on getting some wood to put together my own shelves instead of spending money on crappy put togethers like I did last time. This thread will be great for ideas!

Yes!  Shelf ideas!  I think 4 inches wide is the best size for shelves...at least for normal adult G1s.  At 3 and a half, my shelves are just a little shallow.  but it's what I had on hand.

My contribution is a bit of a mix of shelves and risers.

Plain shelves bought from Ikea, stained to a white/cream to match the walls, then affixed to some of the hardest wood studs in existence. Seriously, trying to get these shelves up took months and there were plenty of problems. Our house is old so there is some epic hard wood in it that just hated being drilled, not to mention the spot where the stud just mysteriously disappeared... anyway, I put a ribbon along the edge of one 
Other than the shelves in this picture I'm using MIB ponies to stack upon and I've made cardboard risers for the FS ponies which still have spots to fill.
At the bottom of the pic is my bedhead which is actually the the shelving from the top of an office desk. Extra shelves super hard card painted white.

An example of another riser I've made. I use sturdy cardboard boxes, cut em up and hot glue them together, paint them white and seal them. They're far from perfect but once they're full of ponies you'll never know. 

I have to make a lot of risers because my ponies are restricted to my room in the family house and every other inch of it is full, you can hardly see the books on the bookcase lol.

Squiggle, that ribbon looks cool!  Nice risers, too.  I thought of using cardboard to make mini shelves, or risers, but I am a fan of light wood tones so I needed wood.  (So to speak.  )
