I dont remember us getting a reason for the change but yes the Cheerilee thing was when the core 7 launched - at the same time Toola Roola completely changed as well. However, to be fair that was more that they "retired" the Cheerilee & Toola characters and then launched "new" characters who just so happened to have the same names as earlier ponies.

Though, did they ever really do anything with "riding rainbows" for Rainbow Dash in the first place?
