Acrylic display shelves: Where do you find them?
« on: August 31, 2012, 09:20:17 AM »
This is pony related and work related...

I've seen photos of ponies stood on these clear acrylic 'step' shelves, and I could do with getting a whole ton of them both for my collection and for my hobby-business when I run stalls. Where can they be bought, or do they have to be custom ordered? I can buy from a wholesaler, I think, as I am technically a business now.

I know that nail supply places carry them... but you have to be a student or have a license to shop at some of those places. But I bet there are other places too.
Now that I think about it, I need some too asap.

Mine are from stores that went out of business and sold off their display stuff. (Other finds: a black metal Lindt truffle display, a jewelry spinner that is great for deco tape.) Some big craft outlets have them, marketing to people who sell their own jewelry. You can also watch for kitchen cupboard shelf steps. They're not always transparent, but if you don't like the color you can paint them or cover them.

Aye, colour isn't a permanent problem as I would put covers on them for the stall anyway, to better show off stuff. It'd just be nice to have a less 'flat' stall, and a less 'flat' collection. My shelves run quite deep.

Heya,

I just ordered one from a seller on eBay. I don't have it yet as it's being made specifically for me. He has loads of other things, such as steps like you want.

I ordered the set of shelves that in the picture have red/pink shelves, but requested that they be clear instead. As I don't want the shelves to steal the limelight from my ponies :)

Obviously I don't know how good it is yet as it's not with me, but it seemed to have good feedback for the specific item and more. The communication was pretty good and free delivery is always a bonus.

But I bet if you look out for shops going out of business and stuff you could find some there.

This is the link to the various items from the seller I used:

Hope you find something somewhere ^_^

Not sure what size you are looking for but the ones I use for my blind bags are nail polish racks that I got off Amazon.
They can also fit G4 brushables.

PitterPatter - Ooh... shiny! They look great, I'll message him.

And I didn't even think of Amazon...

I just remembered something else -- candle holders are good for toy displays. You want the kind with a relatively narrow stem and a big flat top. Also, largish spools for cord or chain, and cake stands.

I got my nail varnish steps from Ebay. I currently have one set for paint, but will get a couple for my G4s as well when it comes to it.

For G1s, I got a quote from a different company on ebay but it was a case of needing to bulk buy to make it really affordable because they were a custom size.

If you mean the nail polish racks that people use for G4 and for blind bags then ebay and amazon seem popular but the other place I have seen risers are some of the big excess stock retailers/warehouses that seem to pick up the post random items for sale.

Good luck in your hunt!

Cheers guys!

The eBay link from earlier is great, actually. I've just earmarked a load of his auctions/listings for my stall stuff. Amazingly, those cake stands would be perfect for displaying all the stuff I make. Things you find... The 'nail varnish' racks with little ledges at the edge are 10.5cm deep, do folks reckon that's a big enough depth footprint for an adult G1? I can always use them for G4s/Baby G1.

I think thats a little shallow for some poses - it will mean ponies have to stand display side out which is going to take up a lot of space. They seem "perfect" for G4s though.
