A website thought my name was a dirty word
« on: August 29, 2012, 09:08:26 AM »
I was bored last night, so in my boredom I go to monsterhigh.com to register and play some games. I tried using my name, Cassie, as my username, only to have this message pop up 'oops, we don't use that kind of language on this website'. i was totally confused for a minute. Then it hit me, the a-s-s in my name>_<
They think my name is a dirty word, lol

That happened to me on Neopets, I was either registering my account or the name of a pet and it didn't like it as it apparently contained a 'rude word'.
Also, that happens on IMDB a lot, someone was talking about Princess Mononoke and every time someone wrote the name Ashitaka it got bleeped. XD

That's actually hilarious... XD

It's not quite as bad as the old proboards default, which corrected 's-n-i-g-g-e-r' (as in, to laugh) to 'sblackperson'. O.o ... actually took me a week to figure that one out.

Wow. :lmao: A little overboard on the protection?  No one would think about that unless the filters there point that out.  Hahaha.

Lots of websites and games have silly filters. :P

For example, the phrase "whisper me" is censored in one game... I think I know why, shouldn't be too hard for you to guess. :B

AHaha, wow. I'm so glad I spell mine Caissi, (as in Kay-CEE), so there's a nice little 'i' between the bad word. I wonder if it would censor Cassondra thougH? ROFL

Hah, protecting the children going wrong! Reminds me when Pokemon Black and White got localized, one of the pokemon.. Cofagrigus, was unable to be traded without a nickname because the word filter picked up on that slur in the middle there.
