I've had bettas and for a short while that should be okay :satisfied:
Just make sure, as someone else posted, that if it's a jumper,
you put a lid with holes on the tank. One of mine was a jumper.

It should be ok, but you should do more like 25% water change daily with similar temperature and pH water with dechlorinator only (no ammonia neutralizer). Fish release ammonia when they go to the bathroom and in good conditions a tank is "cycled" to grow beneficial bacteria who will convert the ammonia to less toxic chemicals. Ammonia buildup is toxic to fish and can burn them inside and out. If you notice his fins start to turn black on the tips in the new tank that indicates healing from ammonia burns.

OKay, I splurged today (even though I had to sacrifice doll money, that's okay).
He's got a nice 5.5 gal tank with places to hide and real plants (so no fin tear!) and two snail buddies.

He'll be MUUUCH happier, since I also got a heater and the tank came with a filter.

My little guy died a couple of weeks ago. His name was Want Cake. That's what happens when you let a 3 year old name things.

When I was a kid I won a goldfish at the fair. I think I was like 6 or 7. I put him in a cool whip container until the next morning when I could get him a tank. Went and got the tank. Came home and he was dead on the floor. I thought he had commited suicide because he didn't like the container. I was so traumatized.

I had quite a few of these. I had one live for a long time and adored the little dude. He ended up passing away when I took him from his 2.5 gallon tank and tried to put him in the 15 gallon. I lost many fish that way. :\

Fish tank cycling is hard to manage unless you keep up with it constantly. I wouldn't mind getting another little 2.5 gallon tank again someday and having a small heater and one betta in it again. But right now I'm just not in the mood. Plus, I feel like I can't find one with as much personality as the first one I got. He sure was a fun, spunky little guy. He would follow me around the best he could too.

That sounds like a great arrangement!  He's a lucky fish, having someone who actually knows not to keep him in a little bowl.   I'd love to see a pic!

OMG ZennaBug that is so terrible, poor Timmy indeed! If I had been faced with someone doing that I would have flipped out too! Thank goodness you were there to save him and give him the better life he deserved.

I actually just found a picture of him, looking through my old facebook albums.  This was right after he was initially purchased, before the soda incident.

He was a fun fish, lots of personality.  I just wish I'd confiscated the poor thing sooner.

I love bettas.  They're pretty hearty too, they'll "sip" air if their water doesn't supply what they need.

They're also, generally, pretty mean to other fish.  They'll sometimes eat their tails, which is pretty much a death sentence, so be careful if you're thinking of getting him a buddy.  Even with a divider they'll sometimes ram it to try to get at the other fish if you've got an aggressive one.

My bettas were always spoiled :) I don't have one now, but I kept the setup so if I want another one he will have a nice home.

I have a little 2.5 gallon tank with a undergravel filter setup. I even have a little heater for it, but I don't use it with a betta.

That's a lovely tank.
You can get some guppies or minnows to keep him company, the betta will leave them be as they're 'boring' as far as he's concerned.
I have a corydora catfish with mine and his minnow friends.

I actually heard that a five gallon tank isn't big enough for a Betta and fish friends? I have two snails wandering around though!

I do kinda want a cory cat too.

I don't do gallons..silly imperial system.
But my tank is 25ltr (5.4 gallon) and that houses my betta, one cory and four minnows. I checked with my aquarium supplier and fish expert friend and he said that's adequate enough =D

Ahaha, yeaaah, metrics would be easier. It's also funny because our science community uses metrics, so if we used it already it'd be less of a difficult transition DX

Hrrrm, maybe after a few water changes and paychecks I'll get a cory then!

Cory's are wonderful.
They eat all the excess food and keep the tank nice and clean not to mention are CUTE AS ANYTHING!

I just wish I could have them in with my fantails, but alas messy fish with long flowing tails who like to eat EVERYTHING are no good for corys.
