So was this sea pony really worth this??
« on: August 27, 2012, 03:20:41 PM »
Hey all,

So as a newbie to pony collecting I'm watching ebay to see what goes on re: MLP sales. This crossed my path and so I watched it to see where it would go:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&_uhb=1&hash=item2ec1191c4f&item=200808143951&nma=true&pt=UK_Toys_Creative_Educational_RL&rt=nc&si=3ZVi4EHrKk3B7OjbMH4WNes5qiQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_1288

Over £100. Is she worth it? It seems a lot to me, I've seen a few sea ponies come up but not with the shell.
Thoughts?

She's worth $30-50 by herself, more if she's absolutely mint. The bulk of that price is actually from just the shell ;) Year 3 shells are super sought-after and range from $80-150 by themselves depending on who's looking and what shell it is.

Its really worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I think her shell is pretty hard to find. And she looks like she is in good condition too.

Oh man, that pony and that shell was the first thing I ever sold.

...I think I desperately undercharged.

She can hit $200 with her shell and accessories easily. :) The 2nd year adult sea ponies are hard to come by and worth alot (their shells are worth more than the pony though).

She's my favourite sea pony and I'd pay that much, if I could spare it (but I can't). I watched that auction, knowing she would go out of my price range. :(

You and me both, and I clocked that auction when it was live and went 'There's no way I'll be able to chase her when she tops out'.

Nope I didn't go for it. Little bit out of my price range at the moment! But I guess if the shells are hard to find it makes sense that the price goes up. Especially when a few people notice it and get fighting for it.

I've got some other sea ponies, one with the shell but its not the conch, it's the clam? Year two maybe?

Having the shell also makes them easier to display I guess :P

A pony is "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it :) After all G1s dont have an RRP any more.

Nice price for her I would say but as Glacia says that price is more about the shell than the pony - oddly enough.

3 of the Y3 sea ponies came with clam shells so you should check just in case its one of them :)

I was watching her too, I knew I didn't have a hope in hell of affording her right now though. Those shells are sooooo hard to find!
