What program do you use for photo's

I've seen very nice photo's of peoples ponies, I sort of have a light box that works okay, but what program do people use to make nice border and put writting on the pony photo's. I see a lot of nicely done photo's like this, especially in customs. I know that photobucket has an option for borders and writting, but I really don't like their borders at all.

Coud anyone tell me what program they use? I'd much rather something that is for free. Thanks heaps,

+1. GIMP is worth checking out if you're looking for a workable free alternative to Photoshop.

Personally, most of my computers have a copy of GIMP installed. Only my classic Mac has Photoshop 5.0.5 (it came in a bundle with the Mac) in lieu of anything better.

Photoshop Its what I have on hand and is actually what its main purpose is supposed to be.

I use Photoshop, but for my machines that I don't have PS licenses for, GIMP works well.

I use Lightroom, I'm not really into HDR or anything that looks overly 'photoshopped'. I am first and foremost, a darkroom photographer. I got my start in darkrooms, and I still have a darkroom. Lightroom is like a darkroom, but for digital (Lightroom, darkroom, get it?! It took me like a year to figure that out). It's intended for doing adjustments to photos that could be done in a darkroom. You can still do HDR and stuff like that in Lightroom, I don't.

GIMP is free, but if you do a lot of photo work, Lightroom is well worth the $150 price.

I use Picasa, and it works really well for what I do. But I also suggest GIMP

I use photoshop, which was very much NOT free...lol.

GIMP, however, is similar to photoshop, and it IS free. Photobucket (a photo hosting site) Also has cropping/text/decoration options for your photos once you've uploaded them to the site.  It's free and pretty easy to use

Pixlr is like Photoshop, but online so you don't need to download anything. I discovered it while browsing the advanced tools option on Photobucket.

Picasa has some simple tools for editing.  But GIMP is a great program alternative to paying for Photoshop!

I don't know how I couldn't live without photoshop (+ camera raw!). But I come from a graphics / photography background, and do more advanced techniques-- as in color correction and restoration... That said, I tend to not actually modify my own personal photographs too much...

I downloaded GIMP, but how do you get a border for the photo's? I can't find it..
