Should I debox my B&W Frankie? Help!
« on: August 19, 2012, 05:28:35 AM »
I really want to take her out the box and do something with her hair.... But then I thought, the box is so cool, all greyscale like that.....then my boyfriend pointed out that it'll devalue her....well I know that anyway :P

Anyway what do you think I should do [you]? :)

I really don't know her worth but I'd keep her boxed because she looks awesome boxed. She's cheap enough, buy another to debox and use.

My instant inclination is to foam at the mouth and hamfistedly type out "DEBOX"... but before I suggest that, is she the Skull Shores version or the Comic Con exclusive?

If we are talking Skull Shores, debox for sure.

If we are talking SDCC Frankie I would be more inclined to keep her in the box. But if you have no plans for selling her in the near future (you never know what prices will be like 10 years from now lol) I'd debox her if you like. What I do sometimes is take the doll carefully out of the box, leaving the rest in tact so that when I am done with her I can carefully place her back (not to be considered MIB of course) just to display and keep away dust.

I, too, am curious about which Frankie you're talking about. If it's SS Frankie, I'd say go for it. I'd be a little more hesitant if it's SDCC Frankie we're talking about here, but at the end of the day, I'd still say do whatever makes you happiest. It doesn't matter how other people/ collectors feel, or even how much you could potentially sell her for someday should you choose. I'm of the mindset that collections are there to make their owners happy, and if you're desperate to get her out of the box, I'd say do it. She is yours, after all!

Skull Shores than definitely take her out. There are still so many of those on shelves that the value isnt going to be hurt much. And she really is such a stunning doll and so fun to play around with. She was the first one that I deboxed and took out of stock (i keep all my girls in their original clothing, with BW Frankie as an exception and a couple others), and I do not regret it!

Since it's SS Frankie, take her out. If you're worried about devaluing her, they aren't going for much anyways since she is SOOO common. And if you just want her in box, get another one! They're like $5 at most stores.
I took a break from the Arena from a couple months due to school and other things in my life. But I'm back now!

Oh yeah, you can definitely debox the Skull Shores version. XD That one was pretty common, they sold it for less than $5 in some places. Free Frankie!

She is a toy.  Toys were meant to be displayed and played with.  The likelihood of her or any other toy these days increasing in value is pretty slim, as the reason many older toys increased in value is because people bought them as toys, not as investments.  For examples, look at toys of the 90s and the first decade of the 21st Century.  There is an overabundance of new never opened stuff, with supply far exceeding demand.

Thankyou for all your opinions, I have deboxed her, but kept the box intact.

However I have a new problem.... Her hair is stiff, like greasy and stiff YUK!
