Storing accessories...are ziplock bags safe?
« on: August 18, 2012, 02:14:28 AM »
So, I am thinking about organising all my G1 accessories/combs/clothes etc. in ziplock bags (some of them are already being stored this way at the moment). Is this safe to do? I know ponies should never be stored this way so is the harder plastic more forgiving of being stored in air tight containers? Do I need to buy some silica gel packets? How do you store yours? Have you ever known the plastic used for accessories to degrade?

I have so many questions! lol

Thanks! :)

I've heard mold and moisture can be a problem with zip lock bags. I would get some silica packets to be safe.

Thanks! I guess it wouldn't hurt to get some of those silica gel packets just in case.

Most accessories are a tougher plastic - the key point being they have fewer added plasticisers [they need to be "hard" not "soft" as per pony plastic] therefore they are less likely to break down.

They will be fine in little bags even for extended periods :) But as you say if they are being stored long term there is no harm in making the bags breathable and adding some silica packs to the storage space!

Alternatively you can send them to me and I promise to take care of them :) *evil laugh* :P
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Hi, moonflower!

I found three zipper lock bags of accessories (combs, ribbons, pony wear, etc.) in my basement at the beginning of the summer.  They would've been there for, oh, about ten years - if not longer.  They all look great, feel great, and even smell great (ooo, that pony smell!).  Mind you, it was by happenstance rather than design that they were there, but they still survived totally well.  The silica gel packets couldn't hurt, however.  I've got to get some new shoes so I can get some packets!

Best of luck with your storage endeavours! ^.^

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html
