Custom MH wigs
« on: August 16, 2012, 03:45:54 PM »
So I knew I should have just stayed out of the dollhouse forum, I already was having a hard time not buying every monster I saw on the shelves, saying I'd just get a few clawdeens because I loved her so much, then I got a Frankie for like $4 and decided I loved her xD... This is how it starts!

Well now I'm working on Skeline, obviously using the Skeleton CaM set, I'm just waiting for her torso to arrive in the mailbox xD right now she's just a pile of bones :p

Now the main reason I made this post, i really kinda want to make some custom wigs for her, I have a few different colors and styles that I'd want to Change around. Has anyone done this and if so any advice?

Also is there a place where I might buy the wig cap things that fit MH, like I'd rather get some without hair so I didn't have to cut it all off.

I'm like really excited to try making one xD originally I was going to use the wig she came with because I wasn't sure I would like the hair, but Im starting to like the color lol

Hello!

Have you tried mylittlecustoms.com? I think they have wig caps, I just don't know if they'll fit your doll  I hope it helps.  :)

HAHA - I totally did that too! I'm all "oooo wings...." XD

Ironically I'm actually more interested in wigs since I customize MH and I REFUSE to reroot them, haha.
Anyone know where to get wig caps that fit MH?

You could always dehair the CAM wig cap and reroot it with the needle and thread method :D Then you wouldn't need to worry about a bunch of stiff glue on the inside.

Would it be possible to do rooted hair on a CAM? Like if you made your own holes? Or is the head so fragile that it would tear?

It's not impossible on the older ones which were made completely out of squishy vinyl, but the newer heads have a rigid plastic cap glued on the top, presumably to make it easier to put on the wigs. It's too hard to get a rehairing needle through unless you melt holes or something :(

Yeah I COULD do that, minus the cap that saply mentioned, though I think I could just layer the hair and cover it. Regardless lol I would like to make many different hairstyles for this doll I'm building xD, it would just be so ideal if I could find wig caps for her instead.

I ave another question for anyone who knows lol, I don't own any boys so i have no idea, but do their wigs fit girls? Or is their heads too differently shapped?

I've been researching this exact same thing.....  So far, I've come up with a tutorials on mohair glued wigs for fashion dolls thAt would work :  http://www.fantasydollsbyd.com/New_page_72.htm
(I'm going to try this one out reeeaallly soon.  I just need to get new glue)

I saw silicon wig caps on eBay but I don't know of they'd be sturdy enough for actual wigs-they're built to go under doll wigs to prevent slipping or staining.  HOWEVER, I did finally find cloth wig caps that would allow doll hair to be sort of woven or sewn into it.....  Which intrigues me with possibility.  Most MH dolls are around a size 5 wig.
https://secure.wavi.com/allaboutdolls/cgi-bin/shopper?key=MT870&preadd=action

The boy dolls are a slightly bigger head size- but then, there is also variation amongst the girl dolls as well as I've found out.  My ghost CAM wig looks silly on all head sculpts except the vampire girls be auss they have the smallest head sculpt :). It seems the sea monsters have one of the biggest.  Random tidbit there.

Here's a couple more wig tutorials:

This one uses fake fur:

This is a wig I made for one of my CAMs using that tutorial.  If you try it, make sure to cut just the fabric part and leave the fur part as intact as possible.  My dragon girl's got a couple of short tufts there on top that I accidentally cut.

And for those that want to make custom wings XD  here's a couple of tutorials:
