cleaning question, how do you remove icky yukky hum hum's
« on: August 10, 2012, 07:37:23 PM »
 sorry for this gross question folks but i received a pony back a couple of weeks ago and it has nasty
fly poo's over it's back  its a lovely G1 pony but it's driving me up the wall, i know its not cancer or pindot.
can it be sun faded, the annoying thing is its close to the symbols, luckily not on them but close so have to be very careful
i really hope some one can help me here, i had a quick look at the cleaning forums but could not find one for this grossness  :P

thank you  :)

Ugh that bites.  I guess you could carefully try acetone on a Q-tip...

It's super hard to buy in the uk, not sure if it will be the same in NZ  I've never been able to get it from anywhere, they won't sell it because of substance abuse :/ so I just get it off eBay.

Wow! Seriously - you can get it in most pharmacies up here. Weird how different bits of the country work!

As others have suggested I would try acetone first, then a serious scrub to the degree you would if the pony had "pin dot dirt" as thats the only way you ll get an even scrub over symbols as well - only if neither of those work would you move on the sun fading - you should cover the symbols with little cut outs of tinfoil in order to protect those from fading.

And if you pick up acetone dont put it on the symbols of course as it will remove that paint right away :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I'm a little confused...it won't just wash off? If not, you can maybe also try alcohol since it's close to the paint (alcohol shouldn't take the paint off, although it doesn't work like acetone either)

As for acetone you can buy that in any pharamacy here in Sweden aswell, so I would search in your local pharmacies if I were you.

Also try in the paint section.  That's where I get my pure acetone.  Most normal nail polish remover doesn't have enough acetone to do much.

Be careful with acetone as it does remove symbols.

Have you already tried a magic eraser on it? I would do that first before going to the stronger stuff. If it's actually stained the plastic acetone won't touch it anyway and you'll have to resort to sunfading.

if its fly poo you should be able to use just soap and water and scrub it a little

the brown of the fly ikkys have gone into the vinyl and stained so good thing its not cancer or regrind but still a stain

I've had a couple of old toys with that. Sunfading worked really well on the marks.
