An idea that popped into my head (G1-G4)

Yeah I'm not sure about Ancient either though it does remind me of the Ancients from Final Fantasy 7 
Maybe "Legendary"? Assuming they had their adventures far in the past in some other part of Equestria or long before the current generation of ponies came along. Stories of them could be "Legendary" like Star Swirl the Bearded.
Retro sounds cool too. Retro is always in!
There's a lot of people, including bronies, who'd love a Firefly or Surprise or others that were connected to the creation of the current G4. I think some of the colours on other G1s would look nifty as G4s too.

Ooh, Legendary sounds pretty awesome too! 'Legendary Twilight' just sounds so epic!!!  And Legendary Surprise... <3

When I hear "ancient" in front of a name, I think of the "Ancient Mew" card from Pokemon.
Like the ponies discovered prehistoric pony cave paintings that tell the tales of a midnight castle and a daring rescue from a monstrous cat... and somehow sea ponies were involved.

Ancient Mew was where I got the idea!  And that would be an awesome episode with cave paintings...or just a book of legends and myths!!

There are plenty of previous and recent discussions on the topic of trademark issues they are really interesting and explain there isnt much to stop HB calling ponies whatever they like, its just that they may have to do so without trademark in place. Hasbro could release a line of ponies called Tootsie, Posey, Seashell and Bubbles simply without the effort of individual TMs...nothing stopping them

Its a cute idea but I prefer "The Original" rather than "Ancient"..."The Original Twilight"...although all in I would say Hasbro just release them "as is"...Tootsie, Posey and the gang

yay! I like the idea, but  hey I dont consider myself ancient yet LOL   I'll go with "legendary", "classic" or  "the original"...... or the "completely awesome" *giggles.. ok maaaybe thats going too far

Ancient reminds me of Pokemon too! Why not "Cousin" or something. They are the cousins from Dream Valley, far from Equestria.

Yup, they still own Minty.  Out of the G1 names all I can think of that they kept are Applejack, Minty, Cupcake and Spike.  Namely because they used them in G3, but with different colors/personalities.  We have seen a new variation of Cupcake in G4, and G3's Minty has been spotted via Taobao and Blind Bags...

I'm loving all of these! Legendary would be the perfect show tie in I think! But all of them rock, Classic, Original, Retro, Pony... Pony maybe the easiest to get away with , Blossom Pony, Twilight Pony, perfect!
