Bad Practice on Ebay
« on: August 07, 2012, 12:11:50 PM »
I came across a pony lot on ebay the other day. I thought wow i ll stick this to my watchlist. Awesome glow in the dark princess variant in the midst of the lot. It had a bid on when i looked so i did not expect to find it ended early the next day. When i see this it annoys me so in general i do ask why it was ended early. The seller said a buyer wanted to buy them for there kids birthday. Ok fair enough. :) But the seller said they looked at the feedback and they had sold rare variants before. She asked me what a fair price would be... i showed her the latest one that ended on ebay. I told her i would run the auction and see how it goes. ;) It is the current listing on ebay. The seller offered the other ponies to the buyer but changed there mind without the rare pony and said they did not know there was a rare pony. She later changed her ebay id.

Ids starbaby_13/nycdreamer1 the latter one is in use.

I am a little confused, is this the one who was buying the lot or the seller -  starbaby_13/nycdreamer1
If this was someone who contacted the seller and gave them that wild excuse then that is so wrong.
I am thinking this was how it played out and the actual seller offered that person the pony lot without the Variant after she looked at their feedback, just not quite sure.

I read it as the ebay user starbaby_13/nycdreamer1 is the one who asked for the lot to be ended early in order to get a rare pony without having other people bid on it. This sort of behavior has long been frowned upon in the community. Sad to see it continuing...

Thanks for posting Napper.

I know it wasn't easy but this is very frowned upon in the community.  And I am with kitkat here on this being sad to see that it still continues, especially on a rare and valuable pony.

I am just glad you were able to get ahold of the seller to let her know how valuable it was.  And now it is a fair playing field and the seller will get what she deserves to get for it.

It's really crooked to give someone a sob story to try and get them to give you a buy it now or end an auction early so that you can trick the seller out of fair market value.  If that was the case here, and it seems to be, then I am glad you brought it up.  I am all for finding a good deal or sniping a good price at the last minute or something, but intentionally taking advantage of someone like that is just wrong.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I agree, this is a very unfair and selfish practice.  Some people have no shame. Sometimes, a kid just can't get what he/she wants for their birthday. It's sad, but it's part of life. But hey, why should she have to learn that? Clearly her mother never did.
I'll put something here some time

Thanks for posting about this
Its awful that people who are part of the pony collecting community still try and get away with this behaviour even though they know its wrong :(
It just shows that the buyer (starbaby) made up the story about the kids b'day, because if she was genuine then she would have not known anything about the rare variant, and she would have bought the lot even when it was taken out. Also the ID change shows she knows she did something shady   >_<  .
I'm very glad that the seller listened to you and is not out of monies, and that the pony can be sold fairly :bigups:

I hate buyers who do this kind of thing.  And they know it's wrong too, otherwise why try to lie and say it's for a child's birthday?  If it's a vintage or Nirvana pony auction, it's not going to be for a child unless there are just a whole bunch of children out there who just *have* to get their hands on crazy rare ponies.  What a despicable thing to do!  It cheats the seller out of money, and it cheats other honest buyers out of the chance to own something.

Are we sure it's the buyer? I thought the op was saying it was the seller.

So the buyer changed their id or did the seller?

@ RPB - it was the buyer  (originally called "starbaby_13)  who  changed their ID  when things didnt go to plan  ;)

Eurgh, there is nothing that annoys me more than people listing endings early. God above, 10 times to me in the last month- 10 decent auctions I had planned to bid on!
I'm sorry it's happening to you too. It's so annoying and upsetting!
