My BBTS Experience when pre-ordering:
When pre-ordering, they ask for your credit card number, but they don't charge it until they get the item and have it shipped. When they cannot fill the pre-order, they message you by email saying they cannot fill it.

Safe haven for pre-ordering...I'm pretty sure the same when you cancel?

Do they pre-authorize the amount? Do you have to have the funds available right now?

I don't know...but I think the answer is yes on both.

I just want to add that BBTS also has a "pile of loot" function that allows you to combine orders/hold items within a 180 day period, you pay for preorder items as they come in stock and you can even add in stock items to your pile then when you decide it's time you tell them to ship your loot and they do. It's great if you order a lot of small items and don't feel like pay $10 shipping on each, I think the most I have paid for combined shipping was about $25 and I had a lot of stuff in my pile.

Ooh, spa pony set preorder!  Awesome.

I actually don't think it would be too random for the set to include both spa ponies and Zecora.  Zecora and the first spa pony to appear on the show (the blue one) were introduced in the same episode, Bridle Gossip.  Also, if memory serves, the only time one of the spa ponies had a speaking line was in Bridle Gossip, and she was talking to Zecora.

what if the ponies in the Spa pony pack are Rarity, a new mold Fluttershy, and the Spa pony? I can forgive Fluttershy not getting her own pack if she gets her own mold.

I believe this is when the item is inspected to ensure the packaging is "collector quality" - i.e. they will make sure there is no damage to the box/card/bubble.
