Examples of Maniah and Nichi are great. We do not seek geniuses like Michelangelo or DaVinci in this swap, but that the artist, translate the work as accurate as possible.

Of course if someone likes the Sistine Chapel, you can only choose one of the works, not the entire chapel.

The execution time would be from mid-August to late December or early January.

Well, there is only writing the rules and someone from the staff give us the seal of approval.

I think about four months are ideal to recreate our picture pony.

I'd love to do this swap but I don't know if I can name any favourite paintings... :P And I wonder if my favourites would be too difficult to transfer onto a pony. Most of my favourites are from the Romance movement, like J.M.W. Turner, John William Waterhouse, Caspar David Friedrich etc... Wonderful paintings but how on earth does one paint something like that on a pony? Even if someone would have the skills to do that, I think the examples in the original post would suit this swap better, more freedom for the artist. It's just that I'm personally not into that type of art at all (e.g. expressionism, surrealism) so I wonder if I should just skip the swap because of that.

Oh, but Mucha might work... Would his work count even though most of them are not paintings?

Well, let's remember that we're not these geniuses painters^^, we want to emulate them, but not be them. For example, take for example this picture (Las tres edades y la Muerte).
The main characters are the women, and death. All other figures like the bird and landscape are secondary. Can be done in a pony g1, g3 or styling, in a G4 would be very difficult but not impossible.

A different picture, this for example:

In this picture the main figure is the clock on the left. The strangue figure can go right, but a styling would be ideal for this picture.

A picture like this:

A landscape can easily be painted in a g3 or g1 and more daring can do it on a g4.

Anyway will have to choose a minimum of ten famous pictures to give your partner a wider range of possibilities.

Look at the examples of the first page and I'll show you another example of an African landscape that I myself did:

Ok, so I understand that we would not be directly copying the painting but rather making something similar to that painting right? And it has to be a famous painting, so something well known or made by an artist that is well known?

Yes and no. The purpose of this swap is to copy a picture, a painting famous or not so well known, of any style: romantic, classic, modern, impressionist, baroque, pop art, etc, etc.

You can change a little, If you need to change something to accommodate the size to body of the pony, but you can not change the original colors. It must be recognizable to anyone who sees the custom to say "Hey, this painting is of such person."

Any paint used, the condition is there, to appear in google if you search and display the author.

The couples will be depending on the degree of skill of each.
I ask what is the strength of each artist in painting and so I can match them according to skill level.
Also, the minimum should be ten famous pictures, and participants will have options.

I'm not signing up for this, but Im really interested to see what comes of it. Could I make a suggestion? For those who cannot do people well, maybe you can make it a rule that people must include a certain number of paintings that do not contain people? Like landscapes or abstracts? Then there is something to pick from if people are not someone's forte.

make up the rules! Let's do this!

Also- for those who are uncomfortable with people, do remember, that many paintings include "simplified" or "silluette" people that are basically stick figures.

So don't let the idea of painting people scare you. Not all painters who include people in their art paint like this:

Let's not forget about the most simplified human figures of Picasso ;) I'm pretty sure there will be at least one person who likes him and cubism :).

Another good example.  So let's not worry about weather or not we'll have to paint people. There are a lot of different styles and I'm sure we'll be matched up based on the styles we are comfortable with.
