Sorry about the late reply  They were both from UK ebay
Ok that is odd as Buzzer has Whirlys wings - a year separates the pony release from the wing design release!

Nightmimic can I ask what country the seller was from out of curiosity?

First thing I saw were mismatched wings too! She should be kept as a OOAK. That other winger was interesting though, if it wasn't accompanied by the one with no mane at all, I'd say ugly tail replacement.

I am having wishful thoughts on them being winger "oddballs"??? a la Happy Tails variants kind of style? That was the reason I asked where they were from as such ponies being from the UK makes it more likely that these could also be one of those randomly combined sets - although perhaps we would have seen more of them by now if that was the case....its more Buzzer that makes sense this way than SkyDancer of course.

I honestly don't know what to say!!  Where are they made when you look under their hooves?  Wingers were produced in China, Hong Kong and Argentina.
Buzzer and Sky Dancer are both Summer wings that were introduced in 1988 and the Windy Wings were introduced to the public in 1989.  So it would seem strange for a Summer Winger to have  Windy Winger's wings, considering they were released a year apart.  I suppose conceptually they were created together, and that would probably mean Hasbro created prototypes to decide final wing and hair color selections.  I'm just a little curious about how Windy wings ended up of you ponies considering the manufacturing years.  I just took a survey of about 40 of my wingers, I noticed all of them said 1988 on their hooves; meaning that both lines were likely produced at the same time.  If we liken this situation to the "Fraken-ponies" created out of the Chinese factories, then perhaps you're in possession of some kind of factory oops!

In my opinion, In think you have something extremely rare and special!!  I am a little skeptical of Buzzer's tail being the real deal and not a bad replacement.  If it is at all possible for you to remove one of their heads, you'll be able to see if the "wing plug" is intact.  The piece that holds the backplate secure is a small, tan colored oval piece of plastic with a hole in the center.  If the wings are factory issued, then neither the backplate or the wing plug should show any wear or stray marks.  It can be very difficult to replace the wings with the wing plug on!!  I know that when I attempt to replace wings, I use a screw driver to lift the backplate up; this does leave small scratches and marks on the pony.  It also breaks the factory seal on the backplate.

What I'm trying to understand is if those wings came on her originally and are have not been replaced:)  If all those elements have not been tampered with, I would agree that these are more than likely authentic!!!

The 1988 on the hooves is the date of the mould Michelle...no matter the year that pony was produced in she will say 1988 underneath. :)

That buzzer's body looks really shiny? Did anyone else notice that?
I'd definitely try to get more info from the seller if they have any history at all on them.
Nice finds!! :o)

Haha!!  I should know that considering we use mold in jewelery!!  That's my 'Duh' moment for the day.
Anyway, I hope that we can get some better pictures of her neck-seal, backplate and hooves so we can determine if she has been opened or worked on in any way.  I think that is going to be the best way of determining her authenticity.  Oh, one more thing; how thick are her plastic wings?

Did the seller have any other information on her??  I want to know where they got these ponies from!  No, I don't think that you overpaid either.  Considering what they potentially could be, I think you walked about with a steal:)  Congrats sweetie, I know I'm one jealous pony-peep right now   You know I mean that in the nicest way possible!!

Wow, WEIRD!   Well, my guess is that they are variants in the same way the weird princess ponies like "Princess Woosie" and the others are . . . They just slapped whatever pony parts they had lying around.

I really can't see someone ripping out Cool Breeze's or Whirly's wings just to make a variant, Windy Wings are rarer than Summer Wings.  Also it is REALLY HARD to remove / add those wings.

It's not like the flutter ponies, where there are slots in the back.  Instead, you have to pry out the square of plastic that holds the wings down.  Both wings are made of one piece of plastic, sort of like a V of plastic, with the point of the V hidden under the square in the back of the winger, if that makes sense.

I'm looking at the completed auctions, alot of their ponies look shiny (like look at beach ball! she looks way different!!!).. and most are different looking from the normal ones i've seen. maybe its the lighting.. I can't believe after all this time new variants still turn up!

edit- also, notice the seller is reposting up the same ponies? they must have multiples..

The seller might have wiped them off and taken pictures when they were wet? And all the re-listed items were won by the same bidder who I guess didn't pay so they were put back up.
