I like alicorn but being a ponyisland player they've always been winged unicorns but I've always called them...

And I don't know who the author is that others have posted about, gonna assume he's super awesome popular and somehow I just missed out on the awesomeness. Are his books about unicorns???

Winged Unicorn just sounds more elegant to me. I have no idea why I just don't particularly like Alicorn when referring to a WU, but it's just my personal preference and it doesn't matter much to me if someone uses it. Actually I don't even particularly like to use it in reference to the horn.

I've called them winged unicorns ever since I read 'Whisper the Winged Unicorn' because, well because it makes sense. 

This is also why I called them that, I remember that little book and I might still have it somewhere

Piers Anthony had a whole series of fantasy-comedy books in . . . I want to say the 80s and 90s?  Possibly before that, too.

I will risk the wrath of his fans by admitting I thought his sense of humor was lacking.  Very pun-based.

I think unipeg or pegacorn sound really dumb, so I call them alicorns. It's quicker than saying winged unicorns..

We always called them Uniasus, the 'Uni' from unicorn and the 'asus' from Pegasus no real reason why just a fun merging of the two words that was fun to say. :p

OK so maybe a pegacorn, is a pegasus with a horn, a unipeg is a Unicorn with wings, and an alicorn is a pony with wings and a horn.

I'll admit the humor isn't for everyone. Personally, I think an entire world built around puns is good fun. The puns themselves aren't meant to be all that funny on their own... they are puns after all. I've enjoyed his Xanth series since I was in junior high. I read nearly a dozen of them in about a week and a half once and got burned out on them for awhile. lol I've never read any of his other series, though.
