I've afforded all my dolls through selling.
I've sold mostly ponies and pullips to afford them, but i'm also bargain hunter extreme.

I've paid 200 and 300$ for 600$ dolls, 250$ and 375$ for heads that generally run 800$
I'm all about impulse buying. Pounce on random dolls when they pop up at a good price. I'll figure out what to do with them after they get here.  Another big tip is be willing to take chances. If photos are bad, but hte person has been bumping forever and lowering their price - maybe it's time to take a chance! (that's exactly how I got my soom Ai, who was a deal on the market at the time, but soom ai's have since been popping up against since the recent free choice event, so it's driven resale value back down - not a problem though cuz I love my ai!)
and then I can spend a little money on making them prettier than they were before (most of my "deals" were poorly kept dolls)  I get them nice quality face ups (~60-100$), nice clothes (I have very little clothes, but I do my best to either have them be quality, or make them look quality) and then I strive to take good photos, so when it's time to resell, people are willing to pay what I think I've made them worth. I do most of my sales to people who know me and my dolls nowadays. I've not sold a doll on DoA in ages
My next doll i'm looking it is potentially going to cost me a 1500, but I've been able to put a huge dent in that by selling 3 dolls.

I've only ever had to sell a doll under what I paid for it once and that was the doll I bought new And it's a REALLY unpopular sculpt.

Skitterbug, I hate it when that happens Couple of months ago I bought a Volks Mamu from Yahoo Japan and it turned out to be a recast, so you have my sympathies.

I'm not even gonna put my whole doll family here, I don't want to think about how big it really is <_<;; Let's just say that I have almost every type of Unoa there is, bunch of Volks and Soom and some other BJD's.
