pony costume making ?
« on: July 20, 2012, 01:20:05 PM »
I am by no means a seem-stress but I have a friend who is. She has agreed to try and make me a peppermint crunch costume. You who have made pony costumes do you go by a pattern? Where do you find the wigs in the right color ect. Or does anyone make them for other people?

I am wheel-chair bound so my costume would need to be 2 pieces to make it easier for me to put on. Sorry for so many questions I just would love to have a pony costume but now sure how to go about it.
I encourage you to check out my feedback on eBay and here at the arena.

I get wigs from Arda when I'm doing a "super serious" cosplay (because they're expensive XD so I don't use them for gijinkas and silly stuff unless I can use it for something that's actually good too), and I just buy off ebay when I'm looking for something more "budget" c:

It's usually useful to sew off patterns, even if you're just using them for a base and changing the actual shape as you see fit.  For simple things I usually don't use a pattern, but it's helpful when I'm doing anything more on the complicated/fitted side.

Were you looking for more like anime cosplay type stuff like a human girl in a themed dress with pony ears type thing or were you wanting a full on pony costume with a head and hooves and all that?

I make fursuit costumes myself and I would be happy to help you with any questions you might have on that process :)

I'm lucky to have bright coloured hair so I just pre-plan to dye my hair pink or green or whatever I need it to be before cosplaying,
as for the outfit I'm normally pretty lazy and buy a dress or a skirt I like and sew the cutie marks/other bits I want on it by hand. I just get the correct colour in clothing.
I'm in the process of making my own wings for a cosplay out of wire and several hundred feathers!

Good luck with it, ebay's always a good place to start, pick coloured extensions for a tail and you can go from there!

Some great advise already :) I wouldnt have a clue where to start unfortunately! I love the idea of you picking Peppermint Crunch as your pony of choice however - she does get enough love!

Due to me being in a constant sitting situation I just don't do skirts or dresses. So in answer to your question I was thinking pants, top and wig with ears. Nothing over hands or feet for easy maneuvering.

I've seen hoodies with ears and a mane sewn on. That might be a good option for you?
