Plush Patterns
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:56:56 AM »
I want to make a plush for my daughter for her second birthday. I've found two patterns. One for $6 on etsy and one for free on DA. But I was wondering if you guys knew of any good plush patterns. I can buy the pattern if I have to I just want it to make them for my kiddo :D
ALso what do you guys use to make your plushes and where do you get it? I've seen plushes made from minky, I'm not sure if that's what it's really called but I like the look of that stuff.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Sadly it seems that most plushie makers keep their patterns to themselves... >_< Once I get enough time Ill make my own pattern and when I do I will share it with everyone!
But I know a nice unicorn horn tutorial! http://thejuise.blogspot.ca/2012/01/make-unicorn-horn-flower-crown.html
Its not much but it is a little bit on the way.

Thank you that is too cute! Maybe she can be Twilight Sparkle for Halloween  :iconclap:
Oh I know. I saw an awesome foal Rainbowdash on DA and it said in the decription "I don't share my patterns at all so don't ask." Well hmph  >_<

I purchased patterns from ValleyViolet and they're great patterns to work with:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/valleyviolet?ref=top_trail

Not free, but you get what you pay for with things like this... Besides, a lot of plush makers sell their plushies, and if the patterns for free, they'd have a lot more competition. :)

Well I understand that but that one just seemed a little rude to me lol
I think I'll get patterns from her they look so nice! Did you buy a physical copy or just the PDF?

If that plushie maker sounded a bit rude it might be because a lot of people have been asking about it...I have experienced that too, it's easy to loose your temper when people pester you about a thing that they can easily search out the answer to.

But I can't agree with that they would get more competition if they shared their patterns... Not everybody have the ability or the tools to make plushes. And those who really want, will find a way to make a pattern anyway. And very few can mass produce plushies. Besides, if you are good, people will come to you anyway. People are suckers for good quality things.
Well that is at least how I see things and reason.

By the way, the same site with the unicorn horn have a tutorial for a pony tail as well!^^

I had bought that pattern from ValleyViolet and it was really difficult to follow.  I never did get to finish my plush without getting frustrated and giving up.  I wouldn't recommend that unless you already have a strong knowledge of sewing.  My sewing experience was limited to simple skirts, pajama pants, pillowcases, tote bags, etc.

This one looks alright, it's a free pattern, I'm planning on giving this one a try when I'm feeling better.

Yea I saw Voodoo Tiki's and the legs need to be wider but I'm not awesome enough to figure out how to alter the pattern.

Sure you are! all you need to do is just make the legs a few inches wider. My favorite thing about working with fabric is it can be changed and fixed as you go until you get what you want. I suggest using cheap scrap fabric to start with the pattern, then you can freely experiment until you get something you like :)

Can't you use one of the official 1980s patterns? There are always some on ebay.
