Starshine is pretty again
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:56:16 AM »
A while ago somebody questioned the need to put a pony in peroxide AND in the sun together. They thought putting the pony in water in the sun would work as the water intensifies the sun's rays. I did the opposite. A jar of peroxide and no sun. Unfortunately I didn't take a before picture of Starshine but she was disgusting with cancer and brown splotches and plastic breakdown. I soaked her body for 2 weeks just to try the peroxide and most everything is gone but the plastic breakdown (which I filled her with silicon beads to help). Her head I forgot about until this morning. It must have been soaking at least 2 months. Nothing is visible on the head at all. The body does still have a bright pink accessorie mark. I couldn't find a long rainbow tail to stick in her because I'd moved all the rainbow tails to the best condition rainbow ponies as had and some without tails to begin with. All I found without a body attached to it was a short tail.

Awww, thats cute!! I think it's backwards though, I think Starshine being around as long as she has would be Celestias Auntie ^o^

Yeap. She had at least 2 dozen of the bacteria spots with a dark brown center and then she had some brown pinto patches that looked to be in the plastic deep. I should try it on a colored bait pony though. No Windy I think because her purple comes off in just water. Perhaps a Sunlight.

This excites me, as I have no way to sun my ponies (I'm insane, I was considering buying a UV lamp and doing an indoor sunning setup - LOL!).

So, I think my only question now is, how did you keep the cutie marks and hair from fading as well?

This is awesome!  I have a ton of ponies I need to fade, but no window or sunlight to do so...so a chance to do it without the sun is great news!  Now I just need peroxide and a guinea pi- I mean volunteer!

I don't suggest dumping ponies that aren't totally gross in peroxide yet just because of these results. Sunfading is still the only way to go with pink marks. Starshine has a pink mark on her left flank under her symbol yet. Her eyes and symbol did not fade. Her tail did not go in the peroxide but her mane did. I will be able to tell if it dried it out once it dries since I just pulled it out this morning. I know the hot pink hair and chartruse cannot go in peroxide. I don't know what colored ponies it may ruin as of yet. I will also find a pony with pen marks to see if it affects the marks from pen. Probably going to buy a lot of peroxide this weekend.

What strength peroxide?

ETA

Cool site on peroxide uses:
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/h/hydrogen-peroxide.htm

It says that peroxide degrades quickly when exposed to light.  So I think you're right @HavaCrumpet that water intensifies the suns effects on sun fading.

The mane is maybe a little dry, feels more like human hair now. But it sits nice and looks nice and I'm sure if I don't treat the pony like a kid would it won't get all frizzy.
