Anyone else wish Twinkle Eyed ponies.....

I know this is a very popular and loved set, and it's one of my favorites too. Some of my most favored ponies come from the TE line! But I have never cared for the gem eyes. Makes them look gaudy and ruins their appeal for me, personally.

I'd much rather my Sweet Pop have regular pretty pink eyes or my Mimic to have normal hunter green eyes.

Anyone else feel this way?

I'm not really bothered by them, though some photos of 'em I've seen edge towards the uncanny valley. Whether that's the fault of the toys themselves or the photographers, it's not a gimmick I'm waiting for Hasbro to bring back.

That's actually something I kind of love about them--the twinkle eyes give them a kind of mystique. And I would really love to make a 'Professor Dumbledore' custom with twinkly blue eyes after reading that description of him forty million times!

I like the actual toys just fine, but I always thought the eyes looked weird in the TV show and art (the backcards, books, etc.).

The Twinkle Eyes were introduced to kiddies in the UK via a story in one of the comics - edition eleven -where (so I'm told) they were enslaved by the Jewel Wizard in a mine called the Cave of Jewels, blinded by the constant darkness - where Applejack unwittingly stumbles upon their plight. Then, upon their escape, the jewel throne of their captor broke into several pieces (no prizes for guessing which little pony was responsible for THAT happening), becoming the gemstones that gave them back their sight.

TE's are my favorite set, and my collection of them is one pony away from completion <3 I love how the light hits the shimmer on their gems eyes, and how mysterious and lovely it makes them look. I've seen a couple where the eyes were not set well and they reminded me of a chameleon but I just...I just love them to pieces! They did release baby versions of some TE ponies, if that gives you some idea of how they might look if they were painted. I just wouldn't change them for anything.

Of course, the diversity of tastes among collectors makes me happy! I really feel it lets us focus on the areas which bring us the most joy and draws us together to compare notes so to speak

I was creeped out by them when I first saw them (the toys... I was used to seeing the cartoon), but I quickly came to love them... like, a week later I reeaally wanted a TE pony. They're one of my very favorite sets now.


EDIT: The story is really bizarre, but I actually like it. I am one for the weird....

TEs originally kinda weirded me out when I was younger, they kind of reminded me of insect eyes. They have since grown  on me though, there are so many lovely ponies in that set. It would have been nice  to see some of those ponies with regular eyes too. Sweet Pop comes to mind, and Masquerade.

Also, that TE origin story is kinda creepy! It makes me like them even more

I go back and forth on the TE ponies.  At first I didn't like them but I recently fell in love with Speedy and I think I'd like to get a few. 

What I wish is that they'd done what they did with year 3 and the so softs and released at least some of the ponies as both TE and non TE versions (like Posey and SS Posey or Wibd Whistler and UK/NSS Wind Whistler.). Then we could have the best of both worlds!

TEs are my fav G1s, but I just can't get over the creepy story haha. I loved them when I was little too, it's sort of weird.

But yes, I still love the set even though I'm not so keen on the eyes. They are certainly one of the most colorful sets and the color combinations on some are stunning. Like Fizzy....ah, I even loved her in the cartoon! So cute!

I am the proud owner of a complete TE set. But maybe I can't consider it complete until I get upgrades of Speedy and Galaxy. Poor things aren't in the prettiest of shape but they are nice placeholders. Speedy is a very nostalgic one for me. I remember when I was a child finding her in amazing shape at a flea market and fell in love with her despite never having liked the color orange. It just looks so lovely on her!

And yes, gotta say I'm happy to have Mimic too, even if only just mostly for bragging rights.

My set recently got finished when I received a beautiful Locket in a swap. ^_^
