G2 Petites
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:48:43 AM »
My Little Wiki lists a set of G2s in G1 Petite Ponies form, and I've found a couple other links mentioning these, but I want to know more!

*It says they were sold at a convention only, which one?

*Does anyone have MOC pics? I'm dying to see what card they came on!

*Do they ever come up for sale? Any ideas on value?

Thanks!

I have actually seen a "MOC" set, which is actually in a bag like mail orders (IIRC). I'll go ping the person who has them to see if she can chime in here.

I have them!! they come in a little bag that says Hasbro 1997 made in china. and then they are individually wrapped in plastic.

They are so rare...
I will be showing them at pony fair this year in Orlando, if anyone's interested :-).

they came out as a promo at the NY toy fair, to promote the g2 line, before they were officially released.

I don't have a clear pic of mine to share. but be sure to check out my booth :D

Last time I saw them valued it was anywhere from $75-100 each to $300-400ish for the set - I think that would be about right. However a complete set on ebay did sell for around $550 - personally I think thats high and that the $400 mark is good for them. But there are hardly any of them known to exist and I know I will pay "over the odds" for certain accessories so I suppose some petite collectors are likewise.

They are in the same moulds as G1 petites but are G2 ponies - there is Sundance [pink body, purple hair hair], Sweet Berry [purple body, pink hair], Ivy [blue body, dark pink hair] and Light Heart [white body, dark pink hair]

It was the 1997 NY Toy Fair that they were seen at but they never made it from there to a general release - there are very very few of them in existence but because they were a Toy Fair release I think those they were around seemed to make it into the hands of toy collectors [pony collectors or others].

I have been particularly blessed when it comes to these.  I have two sets - one MIP and one loose.  I'll try to get pictures up today.

They were released as a promotional item for Toyfair, and are often called "the Toyfair petites".

They are exceptionally rare.  I know of only a few sets in existence.  Most of the people who own them are really long time collectors who were in the pony community at the time when they originally sold.  I know of less than ten people in the entire pony community who own a set.

I have seen only one set go up for sale somewhat recently.  About a year or two ago a MIP set went up on ebay.  It ended at well over $500.  I think the final auction price was somewhere around $550.  That was the first set I've seen for sale in many years.  I have no idea what they go for loose since the only set I've seen go up on ebay in the last ten years was MIP.

Back when they were first sold they were a heck of a lot cheaper.  I got one of my sets for $35 off of ebay when they first came out:p  From what I remember back then, there weren't very many sets put up to begin with, and it was a very limited window of time that they were popping up on ebay(like maybe a month or two).  They sort of came and went mostly unnoticed which is how I got a set for $35.  Once they were gone, that was it.  Now the hardcore petite and G2 collectors all know about them, so when a set does come up it goes for insane prices.  I actually have two loose Toyfair petites for trade/sale, but I'm not quite sure what to do with them since they're so rare and it's not a complete set.

Picture!  Hopefully the size is ok.  I lost Photoshop when I had to wipe my hard drive recently.
