BroNYCon - who's going?

I already know of a lot of brony community folks who are going to BroNYCon this summer, and was wondering who from the old-school "pony fans" community will also be around!

So who's going? Will you have a table, and if so, for what?

I'll be there both days, and get to do a panel on Saturday. No table, though. I'm hoping the old gens are at least a little represented, since I think it's been over a year since I've bought a G1, and I won't be making it to MLP Fair this year. It'd be good to see some long-term collectors again, too.

Mods, feel free to delete if there's already a thread for this. I didn't see anything newer than January or so.

I'm going!  I'm on staff and I'll have a table for my custom ponies.    I'll be there both days with my boyfriend.  I'll also be putting the staff member's OCs up in the auction.

Are the folks running that event really out of their mind openly inviting cartoon porn artists (like this Slugbox fellow and that guy with the repulsive tumblr pages John SomethingSomething) and allowing them to openly sell their stuff?

Well I don't care for some of the stuff John Joseco draws, he does draw lots of things other than porn. As I've heard Bronycon staff say over and over on the livestream that its a PG event, so obviously who wouldn't be selling that type of stuff there. Not sure who Slugbox is, but the name sort of sounds familiar.

I'd like to have gone, if the timing were different I might have.  But I'll be heading to the Fair just afterward and I can only handle so many hotel costs in one month.

@Opalescence - I personally take huge issue with pony pornographic content too, but the con's FAQ says "There will be no NSFW content. BronyCon is an all ages, family friendly event. NSFW is not allowed to be viewed, shown, or sold at the convention," so I'm not worried.

Oh trust me, it's sold there. It's just done "under the table," because hosting artists who draw nothing but porn is totally fine, right? Because we all "trust" them not to sell porn. *snort* It's so prevalent, one of the Bronies at my local meetup (as in, clear across the Celestia-darned country) came home with a porn-print for a friend he'd gotten at the event.

Honestly? It disgusts me. Porn is inevitable in every fandom, and it has its place - which is not in public at a family-friendly con. If this is a "family friendly" event, you don't let this happen. You check prints, you run table-inspections, you have people sign contracts and have people on hand to make sure nothing untoward happens. You don't go to Ponycon or the MLP Fair and sell pin-ups of the ponies, or ponies in fetish gear, do you? No. Because mature adults know that it isn't appropriate there.

It's a black mark on the con, and honestly? It's really frigging unprofessional, which is ironic with all of how Bronycon tries to tout itself as a "real con." It is a sign of everything that is wrong with the fandom, and with Bronies themselves. It's a sign of social unawareness, of thinking that your sexuality needs to be on display at all times, and if you do not approve, then you just need to "love and tolerate" people who think porn everywhere is okie-dokie fine*. I've got a lot of love for the con otherwise, but the issue of what is socially acceptable has come up before, and Bronycon keeps mucking it up.

That said, I've been to Bronycon before, before the more ... unsavory folk drifted in, and it was quite a bit of fun! I think you will have a good time, especially if you're giving a panel! I hope you find plenty of ponies, and have a good time! And I even managed to find G1s there, so I know you will, too!

*I must add, people can be whatever sexuality they want, I'm not judging that. But it has to be safe, sane, and consensual - and people at a family-friendly con are not considered to be automatically consenting to view sexualized ponies, they just aren't.

It has a massive attendance doesnt it? I was reading up on the amount of people who attended last time and how this time they have had to move to a larger venue to accommodate...thats impressive!
