Perhaps I'm being a bit too ambitious...
« on: May 29, 2012, 09:37:31 PM »
This past weekend I scored some 2 G3s and 2 McD (I think thats what they are) ponies with some accessory (sorry not familiar with G3 at all. I'm a G1 girl) at a garage sale for one buck for all. Eluluu told me to "go for it" and "you can learn to customize with them".

So I did. Now I've never customized a pony before. Ever. So I figured this was a good time to learn every thing. Prepping, painting, re hairing, the works. Hmm the white one (later identified at Sunny Daze) looks enough like my OC Lovely Lacquer that maybe I can make her. I mean, shes not a Sweetheart Sister but hey, I'm just learning the ropes. I'll practice on a G3 before I touch my beloved G1's.

But now I've run into a touch of difficulty. Sunny's head is cocked at a weird angle and full of glue and hair. How am I to clean up this mess? I'm so very new to this and am open to all suggestions.

Ugh, what a mess. I'm so close to just throwing it at Eluluu.

Cut the hair on the outside as short as you can and I just use a plain old flathead screwdriver to scrape the hair out. It will sometimes even all come out in one piece!

SunnyDaze actually has a GREAT beginner head position because her entire row of plugs is very easily accessible to get out. There are others that are at a weird angle or you just can't quite see so well from the neck opening.

When it comes to dehairing a pair of hemostats is your best friend. As Miserati suggested, cut the hair as short as you can and use a flathead screwdriver to scrape out as much as the glue as you can. Finish up by using the hemostats (you can use needle nose pliers as well but hemostats are easier) to pull the hair out from the inside. Good luck with your first custom. ;)

I second what pop-girl and Miserati said.  Sometimes it's just a labor of love to get that hair out, but with the right tools it should be only a matter of time.
