Renaming MLPs

When I was little (Back in the G1 days before the internet) I never kept the backcards so I didn't always know/ remember what a ponies real name was, especially if I got the pony from a garage sale. so I made up names for them. Today even though I know their real names I still think of my childhood ponies by the names I gave them.    Hopefully I'm not the only one who did that. 
 
Like Honeysuckle was Flower and Morning Glory was Ivy.
Skippity Doo was Jumps Rope,
Sherbet was Sunday
And Blueberry Baskets was Berry Blue. Just to name a few.
 
So what are some ponies you renamed because you didn't know or didn't like thier real name?

I'm pretty sure Baby Glider was just "Butterflies"...imaginative child, I was.

Good thread!! With mine, the only ones that kept their original names were the ones that I knew on the movie and the series (like Fizzy, Sundance, Surprise)

Sugar Sweet was Cotton Candy
Streaky was Melody
Baby Leaper was Prince
Baby Racer was Race Car
Chocolate Delight was Fudge
Dancing Butterflies was Buttercup
Sparkler (unicorn) was Buttons
Blue Ember was Teddy (I asked my mom to draw a comb on "him" to make him look like Teddy from MLP Tales, hehe)
Baby Sleepy Pie was Bed Time (which I always thought was a boy for some reason, lol. I later renamed him to Lancer because I liked the character on MLP Tales)

My sister had TAF Yum Yum and named her Candy and also Cherry Treats which she named Cherries Jubilee. I told her that wasn't the REAL Cherries Jubilee from the tv show and that my ponies wouldn't talk to her ponies until she changed her name Nevermind that my Sparkler was named Buttons :p I was mean to my sister :p I remember doing the same thing with her ballerina Barbie when she named her Samantha. I hated the name Samantha and told her my Barbies wouldn't talk to her unless she changed her name. She changed it to Madison so I was happy with that

I got Sunlight second-hand and with no way of knowing her real name, I decided she was named Stormer. And she was a boy. To this day, I think of Sunlight as male.

I try and look mine up in the books, until then they have names like kite butt or flower butt.

I don't remember all my ponies, but I remember these:

Cotton Candy was Cotton Candy (I named everything pink Cotton Candy)
AppleJack was Apples
Spring Fever was Flower
Loop-de-La was Ballerina
Goody Gumdrop was Grape, Baby or .. wait for it.. Purple!

I was quite an imaginative child.

I've always had a habit of calling Countdown "Rocket" instead, no idea why. Rarely do I ever call him by his real name, he'll always be Rocket, my little punk-rock mechanic boy. (I imagine him being a mechanic for some reason, I should get him a car or something, lol.)

Star Dancer I think I called Sparkle (or possibly just Star. I don't really remember)
Cherry Treats was Cherries
Magic Hat was just Magic
I don't remember what I called Braided Beauty and Baby North Star but I'm not sure if I knew their real names or not
but those were all the ponies I remember having besides a vague recollection of a Minty called Clover that I'm not positive if "he" belonged to me or one of my friends or cousins... but remember thinking was a fake MLP because it said Made in Mexico while the others I suppose would have said Hong Kong?...

When I was little it was after ponies were still sold in stores, so mine were second hand. Having know way to know the names of my two little darlings, I dubbed Hula Hula 'Priscilla' after a little girl in a Wuzzle book (I believe before that she was just 'Sailboat' to me) and my Twinkler was Moonlight. My sister had Powder, who was named 'Snowflake'; and Flutterbye, who was named 'Mother Flutter', because she had a nurturing personality. We later ended up with Baby Pineapple, who was, very not cleverly named 'Yellowa'. When we finally ended up with more I was already ponycrazed and had internet access, so all the ponies had proper names.

Upon asking my sister, she reminds me she did eventually end up with Glittering Gem, who was merely 'Queenie', because the jewel on her head clearly made her royal .

Sugar Apple

And ones that were given to me second hand...

Baby Starburst was "Beauty"
Baby sparkle Firefly was "Sparkle"
Fireball was "Sunfire" I think
Best Wishes was "Candles"
And I mistakenly called Cranberry Muffins "Cupcake"

The Sweet Celebrations don't have real names anyway it turns out but I named the mom Balloons, the dad Presents originally then I changed it to Mint a few years later and pretty sure I named their baby Confetti. I also named my G1 bride pony who also turned out not to have a real name anyway, Dove, for the purple doves on her flank.

Not only I didn't know their names, I didn't even name them!  What is wrong with me?


I completely loved them, but I didn't ever think of naming them. I think I just referred to them like "the Cherry pony" or "palm tree pony" or "seashell pony".

My UK Princess Sparkle is named Lucy and always will be.

I was such a weird little girl - no imagination and obviously rather strict! Everything had to have the right name and woe become anyone who decided they should call the pony anything different lol!

But some of these renames are fantastic!

Princess Sparkle "Lucy" is the best!
