How do you organize your ponies?

For those of you who display your ponies on a shelf or whatever, how do you sort them?
By year, wave, color, type, the order in which you acquire them, just randomly?

So far I've been organizing mine in rows on risers mostly by wave release (then the international, playset exclusives, mane 6, princesses, fillies and "walking pose" ones have their own groups) but I might re-think how I'm doing this soon as I will be not buying ones from certain upcoming waves to avoid doubles (Trixie for example I will be buying as part of the TRU set and not the wedding single and for blind bags for wave 2 I won't be getting Big Mac or the glittery ones because of the other kiosk pony sets coming out soon). The sets kind of throw off my grouping method a little.
So I'm interested how others keep their collection organized.

My collection is 95% G1s, and they're organised (mostly) by pose! My babies all hang out together, and my sea ponies and ones I only have 1 pose of are interspaced where there's room. It makes for organised colourfulness!

Among the chaos there is some organization... I try to group by sets (with playsets and accessories mixed in)... I use whatever to make risers. Someday I'll take new pics. (This is when I had an entire wall I no longer have this much room.)

Well I have mostly G2 and they stand in rows with each having some space around her, they're organized quite randomly because I like when they're color mixed The same goes for the other gens which are trying to have their own shelves So the only organization is by generation

I do it by families.  I like to keep families together!

I do mine in sets too, so all the families stay together and the princess's get to stay with their bushwoolies and so on.
I used to do it in colour but I always wonder if the perfume puffs would miss their fellow sisters?
That's just me though

I try to keep them in sets but I´m getting so tight on space that I had to "sacrifice" a few members of sets to put them up with their same pose cousins. So I have all CP and Tootsie pose ponies standing together to maximise space

Mine is organised chaos! I try to have G1s and FS ponies at the back, then G3s, then G4s, then blind bags.

By set, and then by sets that fit on my risers.  I try to kep them in a very loose year-order too, but they don't always fit perfectly.

lol I have to do mine by size because of my limited shelving.  Tall ones go on top.  Babies and short ones go on the shelves that are too short for adults and most babies.  Etc..

Height mostly. But that's obvious so you can see them all when they're lined up. I only fill up one shelf for my collection, so my G4s take up one side by height, and the other side has G1s up front and G3s in the back on books.

Aside from the four of my favorite G1s which are on my desk.

My ponies are just randomly placed on the shelfs. I like how every color is mixed it makes me happy
Only my lemon drops have a shelf for there own.
