Anyone else forget what they have?

Now and again I forget, but I try really hard to not goof.  Sometimes I do get double G1s and that's fine, but with G3 I have kinda stopped buying them because so many don't mean anything to me, so I only collect the ones I like.

This is the exact reason I had to buy the collector books! I have a huge problem with G1s for some reason, especially their names. I generally know them by sight but names. Nope only a few do I have that down.

Haha, yep! When I got back into collecting earlier this year, I knew exactly which ponies I had - except I had totally forgotten that I have a Paradise Baby Beachball. You'd think I would remember the traffic cone orange one I did remember her as soon as I saw her, but for a split second I was baffled when I opened a box and there she was.

I have a list on my cellphone so when I buy I check to see who I have already

Hmm, I just keep a list that I add to as I get more, but I don't use a checklist. I know there are some out there...

Heh, I have one - sort of - but I forgot to update it a few times.  I'm finally getting a pony room, so I was going to kind of have my official list and complete it as I set up my room.  I think I'm going to display them in group by series...then leave gaps for those I don't have.  That's why I figure it'd be good to find the checklist again, ha!

I can't keep track of g3s at all. I have a huge tote (28 gallon, I think)and a box full, and I think they are all different. I had them spread out on my bed last year and went through by color, trying to make sure I had no doubles. I'm half tempted to sell them off.. but I can't decide. 'Cause there's really only certain ones I truly like.

G1s I usually remember if I have it nor not..but since I pretty much only get ponies via thrifting right now, it doesn't matter.. because I generally have a "Leave no G1 behind" policy. Well, except if they are REALLY in bad shape..

Yes, I often forget who I already have - Particularly with G3s! Nowadays I won't buy anymore G3s, unless I'm 100% certain I don't have her.

I haven't had this problem yet. I mainly collect G1 and have no problem remembering if I have on of those or not, every pony gets treated with love as soon as they come home with me ^^. G3's would be a problem, but I have only two and don't plan on getting any more so no issue there thankfully .

imo the real trick is when your intentionaly after duplicates like your wanting 1 to stay in the package and the other out to enjoy...before smart phones and i was doing my hotwheels trying to keep track of the full years several hundred cars a year was TOUGH on top of that the really cool stuff i wanted dupes of to open.....your going to forget eventualy

with the g4 stuff ive kept a running list on my phone of what i have and what im looking for dupes
