Using Yarn for Hair?

I'm working on a custom with a Raggedy-Ann style design.  I have regular pony hair for it but I was thinking yarn hair might work for the doll feel.  I've never used yarn for hair before.... any suggestions?  I was thinking if I did use yarn it would be a very, very thin type of yarn.  Anyone who has used yarn for hair before, if you have pics I'd love to see them!

I haven't personally used yarn, but if I did, I would re-root it the same way. I think a regular to thicker yarn would work great...and give you a fuller result (thin yarn might feel skimpy in the end)

I've used DMC embroidery floss with great success... I usually brush it out after I've go it in the pony but if you don't it might give you the yarn lookvisitors can't see pics , please register or login

Ah!  I just stopped by the hobby shop on the way back from an errand and just happened to pick up exactly that!  Glad to know somebody else has used it before and had positive results.

My first 2 customs were made with embroidery floss.  I like it so much better than the usual hair!!!

Melody, thanks for the suggestion!  The DMC worked GREAT!!  The results were terrific.  I'll post pics soon as I have the chance!

I've used yarn on several customs now (I know you picked the embroidery floss up, but just for knowledge..).  I usually strip my yarn down to the individual "threads" then use the needle & thread method of rehairing...   I always think its going to be too thin but it ends up being really fluffy.  The hardest part has been the tails, bc the yarn tends to be so thick trying to go through the tail plug.
