Question -- with regards to the scientific name, wouldn't it be Latin instead of Greek? I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but I don't.

I usually tell people that don't know anything about MLP that I collect My Little Pony. I don't think it needs to be more complicated than that.

Pony People have tended to be what I'm familiar with when talking about collectors and fans of MLP as a whole.

I always hated the "My Little Pony mommy" jingle as a kid.  I wasn't their mommy.   I was the person who enjoyed seeing them fight deadly wars with Barbie Tyrant Queen.  The one who let one pony fall off the table so she could "break her leg", so the others would have to rescue her.  The one who encouraged villains to make them pull Chariots of Evil, aka the baby buggy with the canopy removed.

I guess "I'm a My Little Pony archnemesis" was too long to fit the tune.

It doesn't bother me if some people wanna call themselves My Little Pony Mommies, but I have to agree that it's not for me.  Maybe a baby doll, but that's about it.  Being a pony mommy would be like being Stuart Little's mom, and that's just weird. ;-)


I mainly remember brushing their manes and tails, watching my baby ballet dancers spin in the Baby Bonnet School of Dance, and letting the mommy ponies put their baby ponies to sleep in the nursery.  I loved all the accessories, too.  The cute little clothes and what-not.  In fact, my MLPs are probably the ONLY toys I played with "properly," lol.  I colored the rest of them, cut their hair, gave them makeup, etc.  I would have been Stinky Pete's nightmare. ;-)

I was also never a fan of the "My Little Pony Mommy" thing. My mom tried to call me that when I was a kid, and I think I gave her my first ever dirty look- I adored them, but they were in no way my babies. Mine also had epic battles with Barbie- she was so oppressive, and WAY to big to ride them. Such a bully! I have no problem with other people calling themselves that, but I never liked it for me. It just wasn't how I played with them- they played with each other and my other toys, not with me directly. Like Lochnessmomster said, I played with my baby dolls that way. Never ponies.

I've seen tons of my friends' daughters take care of baby dolls in a very motherly fashion, nursing them, pushing them around in a buggy, even "going into labor" with them, lol.  The thought of doing those motherly-type things with other toys is bizarre to me, but again, to each their own.  And I do realize that when people are calling themselves MLP Mommies, they don't really mean it like that.  Like you said, I just can't bring myself to use the term for me. 


In some ways, it's a shame we can't just call ourselves The MLPs, like the Men In Black call themselves The MIBs.  Except that, of course, the MLPs are the ponies themselves, and not the people who collect them.  I still vote for "broke."  Cracks me up every time I think about it, lol.
