Im similar.

When I was a kid the butterfly backing for a 10k gold earring I was wearing went inside my lobe.  Since then ive been very sensitive to things, cant wear silver or 10k gold without my ears puffing and going bright red (ill sometimes endure the pain but if its costume jewlery its out of the question for longer then an hour or 2) and they get infected (white puss) easy.

Ive just dealt with it. Polysporn heps when things are raw or infected.  Just keep things clean :)

Oh my goodness, my ears healed in only a few months!  The second set took a little longer, but was still good to go before I hit the 6-month mark.  I have to keep higher quality piercings in that set because they're more sensitive, for some reason.  I just wear the diamond studs from my grandpa (he gave them to me for my 18th birthday and then died 2 years later  :( ) in that set because they don't give me problems.  I have a couple body piercings and I only wear surgical stainless in those.  My belly button is pretty sensitive (it took almost a year to heal completely) and I had a few problems with granulation and a slight infection.  But my problem with that piercing was actually overcleaning, believe it or not.  It was too dry.

I'd say at this point, you're probably good to go as long as you stick to high-quality metals.  No cheapies from Claire's or Target for you  :silly:

As long as the holes have healed completely, you should be fine to change them. Try to stick to very high quality earrings though, either surgical steel or gold. I can't put anything other than gold in my lobes for some reason but my tragus is fine with surgical steel. Also if you're changing them, try not to fiddle with the new ones once they're in because they can flare up something awful.

My mom always used rubbing alcohol to clean our ears and earrings... it burns if there is anything open... but if you are completely healed, it shouldn't.  I had a terrible infection when little, and my mom got me some sleepers... the round ones that connect to each other and can go all the way through and rotate.  I actually quit wearing earrings for years and then one day decided to try them again, although I thought they may have grown closed, and I could wear them!  My earring holes are tiny (and kinda slit-looking) though.  Good luck, and I hope your ears are completely healed for you.
