MS Paint Problems
« on: April 18, 2012, 08:00:18 PM »
So I had this wonderful idea to make a template in MS Paint that I could turn into adoptables by simply using the fill tool to change colors and I could hand draw in cutie marks or other details. But when I saved my template and went back to it to test it, it was no longer just one color in a block of color. Like the center of the leg was still the same purple but as you got near a line the color of the pixels changed so I couldn't just fill color. Did that make any sense to you guys, cause reading what I just wrote sounds kinda like jibberish to me. I thought I was ok with a computer but with this failure I'm not so sure. Is there a way to fix this so I can still use MS Paint? I have no other coloring software to use.  :art: :work: :whoa:

Do you have the Windows 7 version of MsPaint? I can't use it worth anything because unlike all the older versions, the fill tool won't fill in completely but leave ugly white spaces all around the lineart. Is that the problem you're talking about? If all else fails, there are programs that are free to download like Open Canvas 1.1 which I use for all my lineart (much smoother than Paint's too) and there's GIMP also free to download which has a lot more things to use than OC does but is also more complicated as a result of course.

I just wanted to say I know exactly what you're talking about, but I don't know how to fix it. The suggestion above sounds good to me though!

Windows Vista, and yeah, that's exactly what I was talking about. Well, I'll just have to back-burner the adoptables till I have some software that I can work with. Thanks for the help :)

Probably a silly question, but what file type are you saving it as?

JPEG. Do you think I should try saving it as something else? Like Gif or something?

That may be the problem. jpeg/jpg usually leaves pixels and makes the quality drop and colors kinda "blend" so its hard/impossible to do a whole section with the bucket fill.

I say save it as either Bitmap or PNG so that way the quality doesn't change. The file size will be bigger, but the quality stays the same when you work on it in MS Paint.

ETA: Is this kind of what you may be referring to that's happeneing? In my head, reading what you said, this is what I'm imagining.

You worked on a peice.

Saved it

and when you went back to it to test it out, expected this when you tried to fill it.

But instead this happens?

If it is something like that, its because it was saved as jpeg. Saving in PNG or Bitmap is best to be able to go back and work on it!
Spoiler
Zoom in PNG, clear.

Zoom in JPEG, nasty blurr

I hope this helps!

i strongly recommend using something else than paint for adoptables - it helps a LOT if you have layers to work with. just my two cents, after the main problem seems to be resolved

Lina, doing that makes the adoptables unfriendly to everyone without Photoshop.

Stick with Paint, but save as .png instead of .jpeg. In more recent editions of Windows (Windows 2000 onward) something was changed in Paint that makes it screw up the clarity of JPEGs and the colors of GIFs.

nope. i make all my adoptables with photoshop. ;) you only have to save the final pictures as .png or .jpg, but the work itself will be easier with layers.

How would it make it unfriendly to people without Photoshop?
You don't have to edit the adopties.
Adopties are almost always saved as .png (or .gif or .jpg/.jpeg), which is a format you can open in any windows picture galleries, upload to webpages and such.
it's easier to work with adopties on layers, also you can save them with a transparent background easily, if you save it as a .png.

I'd recommend DLing either a trial of Photoshop, or something like Gimp.
