Custom selling etiquette - don't know artists, ect.
« on: April 14, 2012, 08:55:55 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice on selling a few custom ponies. I'm selling a bunch of ponies on behalf the family of a friend who passed away. In the collection there are several customs. I don't know the artists or any details about them aside from what I can obviously see & describe. What's the most appropriate way to go about selling these? I was thinking of listing them on ebay with low starting bids & let potential buyers decide the value. Is there anything else I should do or know about selling someone else's artwork?

Thanks for your advice. :)

Maybe you can post pictures here and we can try to identify them for you?

This is what I would suggest as well.  While a custom becomes the property of the buyer once sold, it has always been a nice gesture to try to contact the artist before selling.  Some artists have no interest in buying back their customs, but some (myself included) would like a chance at them if they come up for resale.  Sometimes you regret selling them, ya know?  If the customizer can be found they may be able to help with the pricing of their customs as well.  Good luck and you and your friend's family have my condolences.

ETA:  Another reason it would be nice to try to find the original customizers, is so that you can credit the artist when selling on ebay (if that is the route you choose to go).

Thank you, both. I have a lot of ponies to sort & sell, so I might not get to the customs for a little while. Right now I'm just trying to figure out the "right way" to go about selling. I'll post pics & see if anyone can ID them before selling. Thanks for your help.

Yer welcome KitKat.  Even if you just do small batches of pictures, that would probalby help you out greatly ^_^ I think your idea about starting the bids low and letting the bidders decide on the worth is a good idea too :)
