Clear Ponies
« on: April 12, 2012, 01:11:14 AM »
Hey all!  C: If I were to want to make a clear pony custom at some point...does anyone know if there was a MLP mold fakie pony anywhere that was clear, or mostly clear?  Even if it was like the sparkle fakies, but clear colored.  I think a clear pony would look cool.

golly. Your search: likely impossible.

Although I do recall a unicorn pony with a light up horn. Dont recall the name myself. but I remember her dress being branded as the "lobster dress"
Her rump was partially clear so it could light up. It's possible the pony is clear with a painted over coat.

I believe they made a clear prototype by nothing that was mass produced. You might be able to sun fade on of the sparkle ponies... I might have a bait I can try fading because I agree, it would look cool. ;)

you could cast one in clear resin, but rehairing it would be a pain in the butt!!!

What about using a layer of clear fimo with little bits of coloured/gitd fimo for the hearts and stars or whatever? It wouldn't really be clear, but you could get the same effect as the glow 'n shows. It would take a ton of sanding though.

Or do you mean a  completely transparent pony? That would be cool!

I second the idea of making a resin mold (you can find the supplies in Michael's Crafts; usually near the soap and candle making stuff) but it'd definitely take some creativity.  You have to put a cork or something where the tail would go and maybe a series of needles for the mane.

Sounds like a fun project! Good luck!!!

I have looked extensively into this - sunfading a glitter pony doesn't work right because the plastic they used is already colored and it just doesn't seem to sunfade all the way through. Clear fimo or clear polymer clay is really only slightly transparent and not at all see through enough to see items embedded in it. You would have to use resin and as said already it would be a paint to do the hair - but you can drill holes for it. It can be done - you just have to have some spare time (a lot) and area to do this. I don't have either - but I do already have all the supplies. :)

I believe Glacia (not sure on the rest of her user name) her hubby made a resin sea pony - I want one so bad.

Hmmm  Thanks for all the info, guys!  Someday when I am feeling very ambitious, I will try a resin pony.  XD

if you did resin I'd suggest using wefted hair rather than trying to do individual holes for hair - would be much easier to put in.

wefted hair is hair that is sewn together and you sew it on, for like dolls and such. If you cut down where the mane would be, you could glue it in.  hrm... wefted hair looks like this:   |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|   but much closer together and such.....  hope that makes sense.

you can use thin flexible clear vinyl to weave the hair through using the lock-loop method (http://www.mylittlecustoms.com/storepage635486.aspx ) and then istall the whole weft into a slit in the pony's neck.
