Any other martial artists here?
« on: April 08, 2012, 12:59:35 PM »
Osu!  *bow*

Any other martial artists here in Ponyland?  I am starting back up this next Thursday, which is the first time in a few months (or longer)...  I need to go back badly, but I have been procrastinating and sick and getting married and whatnot.

I take Yoshukai karate, and tested for my second degree black belt this last summer, and passed.  =]  huge accomplishment and a lot of years and work put into it, but so worth it.  =]

I took lessons for a few years in my early twenties.  But one requires money to continue lessons XD

Yes, I understand that one.  xD  Mom is paying for me, her, both bros, and DH, cause DH and I have little money for the karate right now.  =]  I've been secretly missing it, but what with being sick and whatnot, haven't been able to go.  It kinda sucks.  =[

What did you take?

I took a martial arts class while I was a teenager and loved every second of it but when my teacher moved the classes ended so I wasn't able to continue.

Chung Do Kwon TKD in college.  Now DD is taking the same class!  She keeps nagging me to get back to it.  Help her talk me into it.

Rybett, I am going back thursday.  If I can, you can, and it'll be healthy for us both!  How about we be accountability partners?  Especially since I hate doing my extra working out on my own... I don't do well alone, so if I know someone else is doing it too, I would do better at it, especially when thye are going to ask me if I did it or not.  xD

Come on!  Self defense, healthy for you, gets you in shape and in good conditioning, and it's fun to say you can do something so cool!

Same here....I lost a LOT of weight and got to such a nice little size, and now I am fifteen over, almost twenty, what I need to be at.  >.<  I think part of it is health related, as I have some weird, weird stuff going on, but that is another story.  xD

Our Sensei and his wife are having their baby this week.  xD  First boy out of three girls, and all but one girl is going to college!   xD  The other one is, incidentally, the girl who my brother is taking to prom.  xD

I never have outside of a little judo in middle school fitness.  I'm looking to get my son into it when he's older, though.

I took 6.5 years of Tae Kwon Do in undergrad and grad school, but grad school got too intense and I had to stop.  I haven't been back since, and it's been 3.5 years now.  I was only a degree or so from black belt, but I also started to have medical problems with my shoulder. *sigh*

I havent xD but I REALLY want to get my son into it, hes ADHD and people keep saying how that helps them learn to focus. I'm not really happy with whats offered in my area though, since the hours interfere with his school, and the ones that dont and are specifically designed for young children are not very close. lol

It was an Americanized, practical class.  The school was at first called Innovative Martial Arts...Strategies I think.  Most of the instructors were cops, and one competed professionally.  I enjoyed the class a lot and I liked most of the instructors.  (One was a *@)#*()#$*#)-head.)

Muay Thai is the discipline at which I'm best. I take four Muay Thai classes a week, and teach on Fridays. After Muay Thai, my proficiencies wane, quickly, but that doesn't stop me from doing Eksrima and Jiu Jitsu twice a week. I'm not very good at either of those. I've tried Pencak Silat, but Silat and I don't get along. I can do very basic Silat, I know the most rudimentary takedowns, but other than that, I don't get it. I'm pretty much all Muay Thai.

My 8-year old takes Okinawan karate twice a week and just earned her yellow belt :D Now we practice kata several times a day.
