This might be a dumb question, but what's the difference between Sylvanian Families and Calico Critters?

The makers of Sylvanian Families (at the time, TOMY) lost the rights to use that name in the US and Canada in '93 so they reintroduced the line under a new name: Calico Critters.

Info sourced from Wiki!

Ooooo! I've always wondered this too, thanks for the info :) Guess I'm showing my age when I call them Sylvanian's hehe

you're not really showing age, they are still called sylvanians in europe and japan. :)

i collect certain families, mostly cats and odd animals, as they are expensive. i only buy full families as well, unless they are very rare. i have 3 cat families, a boar family, otter family, reindeer family, and two members of the very rare ermine family, which are my favorites. the otters have their canal boat house. :)

i have 2 boxes full of furniture from when i first found calicos locally, but now i'm a bit more picky.

I love sylvanians! Very expensive indeed, but too cute! I now collect them for my niece :P haha for her to play with when she comes over. She loves them too!

I love them, but have no room and they are pretty pricey here. I'm trying to stick to only a few collections until I eventually move out and have a collection room, but that's not going to be for a while.

I love them ~ I had most everything that came out in the US as a kid. I have some new ones now, like the sheep family, and a few bunnies. ;D I want more, but I'm trying to scale down my collections as a whole... I may have to get a few babies in each family... cuz they are always so cute.

Are Calico Critters the same as Sylvanian Families? If it is, I collect them. Not as actively as MLPs though.
G1, G2 and G3 collector. I also collect a bunch of other stuff. (Too much..)

*waves*  I collect them!  It is not as extensive as my ponies but I've got a bunch; they are so cute!  My favortes are the bunnies and the sheep.  I just wish that they weren't so expensive and that they were easier to find.

Here's a pic of Twilight visiting my deer family, who are technically Sylvanians (I bought them from the UK.)
