**UPDATE NEW QUESTION**Sealing Custom Blind Bag??
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:30:54 PM »
EDIT: Okay new question, I got  testors Spray Lacquer. Is this the right stuff? Also how will it work with  Liquidtex Tube acrylic paint??

--------
I wanna know whats the best stuff to seal a blind bag custom. I used Liquidtex and utretch acrylic paints as well as I am about to use a micron for the eye lashes. This is my FIRST custom and I'm very proud of it. So I;m afraid of ruinging it...I have a polyurethane varnish I used on cards I did for work with paint, Just saw a little paint run. So would a spray acryclic sealer be better??

Heres a pic. I haven't done the lashes yet. Its G1 Moon Dancer with  colors from the show. Thus no streak.

She is so super cute! Great job for your first custom! :)
I think a lot of people recommend Testors dulcoat, but I have personally not used it.
I would stay away from modpodge, though... It has always given me problems. :/

I use testers or mod podge but it is nice to have a paint on rather than a spray on for something so small. The spray tends to gather, more in the pinkie pie mold but just generally in the folds. It's hard to get a spray on even on something that small. Just remember you want thin coat/s and let that baby dry really well or you will end up sticky. That is an ambitious first custom and you did very well! Try to remember sealant is designed for this kind of thing. It protects paint jobs.

I would say don't use americana sealer. It takes up a bit of the paint sometimes. If you sealed that red hair with it and then tried to do the white without a serious rinse you would have cross contamination.

She looks great especially for your first. :)
I'd probably use Testors Dullcote especially if you plan on adding the lashes with any type of pen. I'd be afraid a brush on might smudge the eyes. I don't think you'll have any issues with the spray as long a you just dust her with several light coats (allow time to dry in between coats).

Good luck!

Is testers sold in stores?

Well I dabbled some Ceramacoat on a paper that had an old drawing on it from my microns and rubbed it in with my finger. No bleeds!! So I'm hoping it'll work on Moon Dancer. I'm so attached to her now I almost don't want to part with her =( I wanna do a couple more blind bag recolors. I'm trying to raise money to pay off several bills as I'm not getting shifts at work like I used to.

Also doing drawing commissions but no one's commissioned me yet =(

Testors is sold in most hobby shops including Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

As far as the microns are concerned paper reacts much differently than plastic. I would test it on a bait first and see if it smudges before applying it to your custom. Better safe than sorry. ;)

Unfortunately I don't have a bait on hand. I do have a base that I have yet to put gesso on. I'll test a small part then cover it with gesso after

I'd say seal the bottom of the feet first just to see how it does. :) Sounds like you are doing well though.

Okay while the tester went okay, when I sealed Moon Dancer she did "run" a little when it came to the micron. I managed to fix it a little so its hardly noticeable. I might get some sharpie oil paint pen or something thats not going to run> i had no problems with the paint itself. Just the micron.

Stay away from Sharpie - it will fade and bleed over time.

I know a lot of customizers use India ink pens but you have to wait a long time for it to dry properly and then lightly dab on the sealer to keep it from smudging.

I have used micron pens in the past and haven't had any issues but agaian, I use the Testors Dullcote spray.
