The "My Customs Don't Stink" Game
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:40:41 PM »
Ok, I've heard so many AMAZING artists feeling so discouraged lately and it makes me a sad pony. I've never known a more awesome group of artists and can't figure out why they'd think their art was bad. So I think we need a happy positive thread to help remind us all what is awesome about our customs. Those things we sometimes forget or don't notice. So, here's how this game works.....

Step 1. Look at the custom of the post before yours and you comment about something you like about their custom. Please put some effort into this and don't just say "Nice work!" or "Cute!" Pick something real about the custom that you like and tell them why. Be honest but in a way that's encouraging, not critical. Remember, the point is to give a boost of confidence, not pull apart their work.

Step 2.  Post one of your customs. Maybe one you aren't so sure about or one you are really proud of or one you totally hate, it's totally up to you what custom you post.

Step 3. Remember that you are an awesome artist! Even if sometimes it doesn't feel like it, everyone here does amazing work in their own unique style.

Oh! And feel free to post more than once, but pick a different custom each time and let someone post between your posts!

I guess I'll start.

i hope that's one you're proud of, kat. the patience and endurance it had to take to paint all that little by little. the overall design of this pony astounds me and i must say i love seeing her every time.

The paint lines are really nice, and the design is well played. I like the idea, and the flowing lines of the flowers. Great job on her.

I love the coloring you have done on this lady - the gradients look stunning and the tones you chose for the flowers really makes them pop against her main color and really brings the whole piece to life.

Oh, this is too easy- I remember this pony, and how badly I wanted her! I'll start with her colours, because that's what first grabbed me. Peach/orange with purple is a surprising colour combination, and could be risky for some of us to attempt, but these shades just support and enhance each other beautifully. I love the symbol (simple and elegant), the eyes are sweet and pretty, and as always with JPP's ponies, I adore the hairstyle! There's nothing I don't love about that pony.

She is one of the most precise ponies I've seen. Every line is exactly perfect. The design is awesome and it's replicated from the cup perfectly. I wish I could paint like that! The hair blend is stunning too! There's nothing about this pony I don't love!

This couple is too cute! The little beard is perfect, and the girl's hairstyle is so adorable, it really gives her a cute litle innocent feel!

Another easy one! She looks to me like she could be a Hasbro pony- one that I'd definitely want in my collection! The simple, pretty symbol works for her, the colours are stunning, and I love the little doodads in her hair. She looks like she knows she's gorgeous, too, and I like a pony with confidence. :)   Great eyes, too.

Talk about an easy one!! The owl is too cute to be legal. The body color is amazing, I LOVE that you picked the collector's pose, and the hair blend is beautiful.
(of course don't even let me START on your mug ponies. SO. MUCH. LOVE.)

Here's one I'm unsure about. She sold right away, which is great; but I was really hesitant about the all-over silver stars. Does she look like she has starry measles?!!

The colors and the cutie mark make it clear that this pony is the night sky, and the all-over stars are TOTALLY necessary! I love the use of the metallic paint making it all shimmery, and even more so: the stars gave an excuse to put crystals! A blinged out pony is a good and happy pony  ^.^

This is Jim Raynor, a character from a video game that my bf plays a lot that I made for him for his birthday.
I got a bit of criticism on it that deflated my confidence in it a bit
It was A LOT of sculpting, especially difficult for a newbie, and I did it all in like... 3 days... so I understand how it may look a little slapped together  :(

For a custom done by a newbie in just three days, that's still pretty darned good! The first thing that popped in my head when I saw him (which was before I read about him) was, "Oh, cool, a Starcraft pony!" Your sculpting is good, and you shaped the armor and gun in keeping with the design it's based on.

This is one that I made for Lucky a while back, and is prolly one of my better ones.

you're painting is worth being proud of! i love the theme of a night sky and the beach, it works well on a large pony like that!
