If princess celestia is the princess..... then who's the queen?

I was just thinking the same thing! 

Theoretically, I just think princess is something that is easier for a little girl to aspire to, though.  Not every Disney queen is evil - just all the ones who are actual characters in the movies are.  I'd assume Rapunzel's mother (or Naveen's or Ariel's) are good queens.

According to Lauren Faust, Celestia did start out as a full-blown queen.  I've read that Hasbro/Studio B changed her to "Princess" because of Disney.  Disney always portrayed princesses as kind and beautiful, while queens were snobby and evil.  Of course, the only example of this concept that I can think of is the Snow White movie...

That reasoning always disappointed me--FiM has done a great job of bucking stereotypes and cliches. Blowing raspberries at the "evil queen" cliche would have been right up the alley for this show!

Marketing marketing marketing. Disney has had huuuuuuuuuuge success with their 'Princess' line (which when you get into the deets of it, there's some Freemason eqsque weirdness going on with that line, seriously), as such the whole 'princess' thing is ingrained with this gens toy buyers more so than prior generations.

You're right.  It'd be awesome if they started calling her "Queen Celestia" in season 3 and acted like, "Princess Celestia?  She's always been a queen.  You just need to pay more attention to the
show. "

Well, besides the whole Disney thing which other people have already covered, it could be that a princess is more accesible to where a little girl is at that point in here life.  Presumably, she is cherished in her own home (kingdom) but she is not the highest authority.  Her parents are.
 
That said,  I love the idea of Empress Celestia, too.

Haha, that would be hilarious! People sometimes accuse the writers of "trolling" the audience....That would be an ACTUAL trolling! (Normally trolling makes me wince...but this would make me giggle.)
