I used to volunteer feeding the homeless around here.

Then I got busy and the city passed new ordinances!

I volunteer at Riding For The Disabled.  It's one of the highlights of my week, the staff, riders and horses are all lovely.  My job is to get the horses ready and to either lead the horses or walk next to them, and to think up games and challenges that the riders can do on horseback that will help with their balance and coordination, for example throwing a ball through a hoop.

I have been helping find homeless pets homes for years. Last year I got involved with my Aunts cat rescue when she was in the hospital. I was told she had a few cats, and they needed some food and water. Yea no. She had about 50, living in absolouty terrible conditions. We got her cleaned out, and all the animals medically cared for. I brought about 20 homes. Granted not all at once, some had to be put to sleep, others just needed a bath and some food. I still have 1 of her cats we kept. I have spent a lot of time working with her trying to get her healthy and socialized so she can get a nice home. Until then she will stay with us!

Just last week I applied for and became an approved foster home for the Staten Island Hope Rescue. They generally pull animals from high kill shelters. I pulled a lovely black cat named Lucy. I am waiting to get her, hopefully by this coming weekend. I am also getting a cat from a gassing shelter from SC.  I will get them fat and healthy looking, and socialize them. I will then work on getting them lovely homes. My husband and myself have spent a lot of our time trying to help the "throw away" animals that no one wants.

I volunteer also. It is a animal ambulance. So if there are wounded animals (birds, dogs, cats, bats and much more) we pick them up and give them first help if needed and bring them to specialists how can fix them up. Really reat work! But sometimes we have to pick up dead animals that are hit by a car or drowned and that is really sad  :( .
When I was in high school, I volunteered at a wild animal rehab center! We were the ones people would bring the injured animals to. We didn't take dogs, cats, or other pets, only wild animals, usually ones that had be hit by cars or baby birds that had lost their parents, but sometime more unusual animals like owls and baby otters. The goal was always to eventually re-release the animal, and it was rare that we had an animal that couldn't be released, which was nice. Rabbits on the other hand...they were awful and almost always died no matter what we did. We'd eventually get to a point where it wasn't sad anymore, just frustrating and made you hate rabbits.

As a graduate student, I would volunteer at events that requested my department's "Insect Petting Zoo". Exactly what it sounds like. That was always a lot of fun.

Awh that is so cool! Yeah we brought them to several shelters. The head quaters of the animal ambulance has a shelter for birds and rabbits. Dogs and cats went to another shelter. And wild life like bats snakes and that kind of stuff we also cared after ourselfs. (Hahahaha my english is so bad XD).

That's cool! Because we had volunteers and not just trained/immunized staff, we couldn't take certain mammals that could have rabies, unfortunately. The woman who ran the place said that she really wished she could take bats because she liked caring for them, but the state doesn't allow it. Weirdly though, we did have squirrels and flying squirrels, which were adorable.

I've spent some time volunteering at a local house wit ha program for women who are dealing with homelessness, mental illness, drug addiction, and sexual trauma (usually they all go together). Every resident has a case worker and receives help with enrolling in school, and finding work and housing, as well as connecting with safety net programs like Medicaid and referrals to psychiatrists and other needed doctors. Everyone gets individual and group counseling as well.
I have also taught high school English. The kids pay attention to me because I'm a cool college student :P

I haven't had time lately for volunteer work, but when I do I'm planning to join the AMICUS program. It connects felons in prison who are getting out soon with a law-abiding person on the outside. People getting out of prison have usually spent so much time locked up that they are out of touch with the real world. They need a lot of advice and support - over 2/3 of felons in the U.S. end up violating the conditions of their parole and serve out the rest of their sentence because they aren't able to function by themselves on the outside. They aren't used to being held accountable because they don't have the opportunity to do it in prison. They also find it hard to stay away from the street life and the people they used to hang around.

Used to, for the zoo.  Sometimes I volunteer at a family homeless shelter but I don't often have time.  :)
