Tink-A-Tink-A-Too has bells? To be fair, I don't know WHAT you'd put for a cutie mark with that name but then maybe the name should be easier to make a cutie mark from?

Tootie Tails- I won't even use this name. The whole word "tootie" just makes me want to throw up.

ROFL! :lmao:

G1 Sea Breeze. I guess fish work but... when I think "sea breeze" I'm thinking some tropical paradise, you know, blue water, white beaches, palm trees. When you add "fish" into the mix I picture Galveston- brown water, brown beach, and bird poop!

And slightly off topic but still in the "what were they thinking with that symbol???" category. G3 Pineapple Paradise (I think?) She has a Daiquiri for her symbol. Hooray for alcoholic kid's toys! (Though I do love that she ended up as one of the ponies in the Maryland Meet's Scooter Race. She's too cool for a DD :P )

Yeah, the first six were definitely named for their colors, not their symbols. Butterscotch came to mind straight away for this topic.

Yes, I've thought about this before--they only began matching symbols to names in Year 2.

I do remember when I was little asking my mother how Cotton Candy's symbols matched her name (I wasn't aware of the Year 1s).  She said she thought the bits of white were specks of sugar in the cotton candy!  I still like this answer.

Some of the early symbols are pretty clever--for instance, Firefly is lightning b/c fireflies can also be called lightning bugs.

It seems like less thought was put into this kind of stuff as the years rolled on.
Looking for CF Minty, excellent condition! (and maybe Snuzzle and Blue Belle)

Tuneful... erm SQUARES?!!!

In my mind, I refer to the Rockin' Beats ponies as synesthesia ponies, because a lot of people with sound-related synesthesia tend to see shapes that correspond to different sounds. (I have synesthesia, but a word-color or word-taste kind, nothing sound-related. You can read up about it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia)

That's interesting! I didn't know about that condition, thanks for the info. :)

I believe her name is an onomatopoeia - it's the sound the little bells make when they jingle. :)

Most of the G1 Newborn ponies have names that don't seem to match the symbols, in my opinion. Dibbles, Dabbles, Jangles, Tangles, etc.

I guess that makes sense but what about either Toola-Roola (Core 7 or pre-Core 7)?

I remember when the original Toola-Roola came out, everyone said she had a a Celtic swirl as a symbol. If that's what they intended, Hasbro might have been trying to connect it to that old Irish lullaby where the chorus goes:

"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby."

G2 Princess Crystal. She's a magician. Her symbol is a couple of planets. WHAT.

Silly Sunshine: Has flowers and a butterfly for a cutie mark?
Sunny Salsa: A circle design with ovals?

^ I always thought that Sunny Salsa's symbol was supposed to be a tomato
