LOL!! let us know how it goes!! that was the worst one I've ever done I think... there have been quite a few bad ones though :P 
..about the weights -I put mine back in too  (once they have been cleaned up so there is no rust left on)   :)  Like IceC said, it helps them to stand up better  :relaxed:

I'm leaving them out because I don't want any further rust problems in the future.  I do the same thing with tail washers too with regular ponies.
