Prepping Blindbags?
« on: February 27, 2012, 06:26:01 PM »
Hello everyone! Newbie here.  :P I finally decided to try my hand at customizing and bought myself an array of goodies to play with. One of those items was some extra G4 blindbags. I rubbed them down with acetone with both cotton balls and q-tips, but for the life of me, I can't get all the paint off! Does anyone have any tips or tricks for prepping these things?

Thanks!

you really shouldn't need to get all the paint off if you are planing on giving them FBRs :)

SD is right. :)  if you don't plan on a complete repaint, though, are you working with 100% acetone?

put them in a little bowl of acetone and then scrub them with an old toothbrush. Helps get into all the litle nooks and crannies

You can try the yellow can of Easy Off Oven cleaner, though test it first, we use it on Breyer Model horses due to the plastic they are made out of it works super.

You might also want to clean the seams up a bit, they have some rotten ones.

I had actually planned on not doing a full body repaint if I could help it since both ponies were the ideal base color. And even if I have to paint the whole thing, I just wanted as clean of a working surface as possible. *shrugs*

Yup, using pure acetone I bought in the paint section.

That's a great idea! I use tooth brushes for cleaning ponies all the time, but it never entered my mind to use it here. :D

If the acetone doesn't pan out, I'll definitely give the Easy Off a shot. And thanks for the tip about the seams. I hadn't given that any thought.

A friend of mine destroyed several blind bags in a bowl of acetone... the plastic broke down. So please be careful.

That would be what I would be afraid of x:

There is also the option of leaving the hair color alone and painting over it, just remove the eyes and the symbol. If you think about it the hair paint could be treated as a blank canvas xD Least you won't have to worry about the acetone destroying it like Puush mentioned

the goof off can destroy plastic too. Just a precaution. Whatever you use, just don't leave it for long.
