you really shouldn't need to get all the paint off if you are planing on giving them FBRs
SD is right. if you don't plan on a complete repaint, though, are you working with 100% acetone?
put them in a little bowl of acetone and then scrub them with an old toothbrush. Helps get into all the litle nooks and crannies
You can try the yellow can of Easy Off Oven cleaner, though test it first, we use it on Breyer Model horses due to the plastic they are made out of it works super. You might also want to clean the seams up a bit, they have some rotten ones.
A friend of mine destroyed several blind bags in a bowl of acetone... the plastic broke down. So please be careful.

And even if I have to paint the whole thing, I just wanted as clean of a working surface as possible. *shrugs*
