fake tattoos as symbols???

Just a thought~ was wondering if anyone has tried to apply fake tattoos and seal over them if this would work for symbols??

Mmm, I haven't tried it, but I suppose it /may/ work if you sealed it really really well

thought about it, never tried it tho ... guessing it would work best on a white pony as when applied on skin they kinda have that translucent quality to them.  I think that there are customizers out there (a wendysomething or other comes to mind) that does use tatoos or stickers or something with her disney ponies and they are kinda cute :-)

I've used them. It works. If you are doing it over paint, then seal the paint first. You may want to make sure you have more then one copy in case it doesn't go on well the first time. The more wet the back is the better it slides off with out taking the tattoo.

I use them as I haven't got steady enough hands to paint well in small detail. It's tricky, but it's doable As Aednatia says have a couple of the same one in case the first splits, gets an immovable bubble or goes on wonky! It just takes some practice

Most of the bubblegum & co tattoos are water slide transfers (according to wikipedia at least).

Water slide transfers work (haven't done on ponies, but other things yes). Micro-Sol could be used to soften the decal so it won't rip so easily. What I have done with the decals (smooth surfaces, no Micro-Sol used) is that when the decal is in place and dry, I'll brush on a layer of gloss varnish followed by a layer of matt varnish. That will stick the decal to the model very well. After that I'll give the whole model a spray-on matt varnish followed by Army Painter Anti Shine. I've heard that Testors Dullcoat was the best matt varnish on the market but since the removal of toluen from the formula it has lost some of it's properties (mattness, mostly).

thanks so much guys! I was going to make my son a marvel comics superhero pony, but I can't paint people to save my life...LOL So, we found some tattoos with all his fav characters and I was gonna give it a try. I just hope it holds OK over time, and doesnt get sticky or something.

I think it should work. As someone said- they're water slide transfers- and Warhammer 40K models tend to use those. They are tricky, but so long as you're careful, it'll work.

i dont see why not they are basically decals arnt they? which are used for a lot of other toys

I've never used "fake tattoos" but I have used slide decals in the past with decent results. They are a bit tricky to "mold" to the pony's contures, but if you are careful it can look pretty good. All of the snowflakes on this girl are water slide decals,

  They came from good 'ole Wally World actually! Check in the.... I believe they were in scrapbooking.
