What to do with ponies seemingly nobody wants
« on: December 07, 2020, 12:56:32 PM »
Hello everyone,

Picture this: You buy a lot of ponies to get the rarer ones offered. You have the ones you wanted and then there's the rest.

What does one do with ponies seemingly nobody wants? Keep them for an army? Customise them even though their condition is not bad? They are just so, so common. I suppose you could donate them to a thrift store but who knows what might happen to them? (Especially g1s).

I just want to know what to do with another Italian peachy so to speak. I don't want to build an army though.

Anyone got any tips?

Cheers,

Luke

Did you try listing them on eBay, or offering them elsewhere as just a "just pay shipping"?

If you sell or trade ponies much, I’d offer them as freebies or bonuses to buyers. You could also put them together in lots on Ebay—even common G1s tend to sell in groups. :)

I had like, three bins of ponies I considered very common - they seemed to show up in every lot for me! So I put them into bundles, figured “what the heck” and listed them on eBay. Almost all of them sold, and some even had small bidding wars! You never know what might be desirable to someone else, and it’s worth a shot to find them a new home. If all else fails, the thrift store would be a good stop for them; another collector might find them there!

With common G3s and G4s I sometimes leave them out in my neighborhood for the local gang of kids to find, heh heh.  I don't know if I would do that with a G1 though.

There’s the usual toss them up in lots on ebay and elsewhere solution. You can tempt more buyers by tossing in a few good items into the lots. You could sell “collection starter lots”, “customizer’s lots”, or “children’s play lots”. You could make up and sell grab bags. That’s a common thing in many collector communities. You do need to have some non-common items for the bags to drive sales, but common ponies and accessories will be good fillers.

This is for better times, but I once attended a pony meet right before I had to move.  At the end of the meet, I rounded up a bunch of bulky, hard to sell items, and sold raffle tickets for the lot of them for 50cents each.  I made a few bucks, did one massive drawing, and got rid if the whole lot in one go.

Also, if some of them are Italian, even common Italians such as Peachy, you might find an overseas market. Admittedly shipping to some of those overseas locations might be tricky at the present, but going forward you might be able to sell ponies like that to people where Italian ponies were not sold.

Ponies like CP AJ and Bow TIe, and Kiss Curl are fairly common here but I am usually able to find them a home because they weren't sold everywhere. So long as you don't set your aim too high, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. And a lot of common Italians may save you on shipping and make someone just starting on the variant chain happy as a purchase.

People used to send them with other purchases as a bonus gift ;) or put them in a swap box. Sell as part of a lot or donate to a daycare . So,embody loves every pony even BBE baby frosting!
